Bedlington or the missus

Hi All Got a little Problem the Beddie keeps growling at the missus.

(None of the get rid of the missus jokes)

I have a 7yr old Daughter inwhich there like Lasssie & co.they go everywhere together round the house and garden together and the Daughter carries her to bed and some times when they play fight its the Daughter i have to tell to be steady.

She works well (the beddie) and it would break the little girls heart if i was to get rid.

I also have a 1yr old little boy and the dogs very calm towards him she lets him go up close and she dosent murmer.

But the problem is while im out at work the Beddie does occasionally growl at the missus when she trys to get her into her cage or make her do something.

I had a Daddy Daughter talk with the Daughter yesterday and explained that if the dog kept growling at Mummy the dog would have to go.

I darent tell the Missus her reply.

Have any of you any ideas ive started letting the Missus get more involved with the Dog while im in the House and when im there theres no problems.

Sally the Beddie is a Cracking dog shes from Nikkie from Halifax and is off good working stock (the flat back type) If she'd have Growled at any of the Kids she'd have gone long ago.

But same as i say when you watch them its watching something from Lassie

who feeds the dog and exercises it if its u get your wife doing it the dog needs to know its place in the pack sounds like its challanging your wife for top of the pack

 

in the wild its the adult dogs that hunt for food in the home dogs keep a lot of there puppy instinct

ie #

licking your face - trying to incourage you to regurgate food etc

make sure that if the dog is around at your meal time that it sees your wife eat first and that it is feed by her when you have all finished TOP DOGS eat first then in decending order of rank you should have no problems when the dog realises its at the bottem of the pack

 

get your wife involved in training to and never give the dog any attention when it growls (good or bad)

just calmly and silently remove the dog from the rest of the pack they are naturaly pack animals and will dislike being excluded

 

by pack i mean the whole family people and dogs

The dog must see your wife as subordinate to her.

The only solution is for your wife to feed the dog and to spend more time with her - walks together etc and build up a common trust.

got a patt here that growls at my daughter but would never hurt her.daughter and dog are so much alike i think it is a clash of personalitys.when out digging she totally respects my girl.when at home they just dont get on.

Yeah as everyone else has said, I think the dog thinks she belongs a little higher in the pecking order than what your bird does.

My dogs are above my misses in the pecking order and i wouldnt have it anyother way my dogs always comes first lol

No She does try to disipline the dog but she does back down when it growls.

I obviously dont back down but the dog has never growled at me (as i dont think the dog could stand the headache if it did) And it knows it.

Were not talking about a nasty dog here folks just a slight behaviour prob on the dogs half but as many of you have said it prob sees its self above the wife

The other night we tryed a test.

The dog lay with me on the settee and the plan was for me to have fallen asleep and the wife put the dog to bed before she went.

I was obviously awake but with eyes shut and id lay there for about 30mins and as the wife aproached The dog started the Growl so i opened my eyes and smacked the dog with a rolled newspaper and stood there while the wife put her to bed

Hopefully she'll learn from abit more of this treatment so she knows.
