Medium or High Mounts?

Hey,

 

Just ordered a scope, its the Hawke sport hd 4-12x50 and i was just thinking about the required mounts. Will i need high mounts due to the 50mm lens? or could i get away with medium mounts?

 

Also whats the advantages of 1 piece or 2 piece mounts over each other?

Heightwise, go with whichever is most comfortable and that allows you to get your eye behind the scope in the same way every time.

Unless you're shooting a howitzer, don't worry about 1 piece and 2 piece mounts.

Depends on the rifle and which barrel it has. You want the scope as close the barrel as pos. Probably best if you could get to a RFD and try

My RFD fitted my scope and he used the lowest mounts he could so the scope was just clear of the barrel.

Its a scorpion t10 pcp rifle.

 

Any t10 owners out there know if a 1 piece affects the loading mag at all, from pics i see it looks really close.

Don't use one piece mounts. Don't need them on a PCP anyway.

 

Two-piece mounts allow you to set the scope to the perfect eye relief and adjust spacing for optimum rifle balance. Keep the scope mounted as close to the bore-center as possible.

Your going to need high mounts for the 50mm Hawke if it has the Adjustable Objective Lens as this takes the outside diameter to 64mm and that is without any lens caps/covers (another 3 to 6mm depending on make of caps.

good quality two piece mounts.height of mounts what ever is comfortable .higher mounts are better at long range .lower mounts for close range a bit I feel .
