sowhat 1,572
We all can't have world beaters, but if a dog gives it's all, thats good enough for me 4 Quote Link to post
thefensarefarbutistillgo 2,481
How long was that run Tay had in the fieldfare challenge, was it timed, he stayed well for a whippet greyhound Thanks The course lasted just over 2 minutes. I actually have the uncut version of the Fieldfare Challenge on tape thank God, because the one that was sold had been edited to make it look like Tay jacked on the 1st hare , when in actual fact both dogs put the hare in a suff, and while tay was stood having a pee, the other dog started coursing another hare in the distance, and of course Tay tried to join in,but he obviously hadn't got the wind that a saluki cross has. As I look back now, I realise that I was only invited to be made to look a c**t, but they came unstuck, because he did me proud, to say he wasn't bred for the Fens. When I get the tape put onto a DVD, I'll try and get it on here,if its possible. it did look like Tay jacked on that video, but to be fair you couldn't expect a whip grey to run for any longer than that, the dog ran its heart out, he would of been a good dog to put to a good staying bitch, he didn't half pull that hare in quick off a big slip and made Sargent look like a snail on the run up 1 Quote Link to post
chartpolski 22,953
An honest question, Geoff; what has gave you most pleasure... having a Racing Champion, or winning at Coursing ? I've had a go at both without the ultimate success, but I'm still trying !! LOL !! Cheers. Edited October 19, 2012 by chartpolski Quote Link to post

I've had a go at both without the ultimate success, but I'm still trying !! LOL !! Cheers. A good question Richie, I'm not proclaiming to have had world beaters in the respect of competitive coursing, and to be totally honest, I only joined coursing clubs because I got sick of being chased by keepers & landowners LOL. With coursing, it wasn't so much winning,it was more a case of my dog giving a good account of himself, and I absolutely loved the commaradery with the coursing folk.Sallt of the earth. Regarding racing,it gives me great pleasure beating some of the b**star*s that I don't like, because some of them would sooner stab you in the back as look at you, and that's whats kept me at it this long. Also it's alot easier to breed & train a racing champ than it is to breed & train a good working lurcher. In other words , any daft cu*t can breed , but it's the quality of the breeding that really counts. 3 Quote Link to post

I know that in Whippet racing, Greyhound racing, Lurcher coursing, and even just lurcher owning and breeding, there is massive jealousy and envy !! But it's still a good game ! I still like going to the "Dogs", wether that's Whippets or Greyhounds, and meeting like minded folk. To watch a 16lb Non-Ped running round a Greyhound track, or watching a Saluki Hybrid on the Fens, to me, it's all part of the game !! What about them dog pups you have out of "Sugar" ? Will they be Scratch Dogs; or hare dogs ? I have a feeling they could be both !! Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post

Do any clubs still meet and conduct themselfs within the Hunting Act or did they stop ?? Steve; Fox Hunts are still allowed to operate within the "Hunting Act 2004" but Coursing Clubs are not. Fox Hunts can "drag hunt" to a scent. but, unfoutunately, there is no way around the legislation as far as Hare Coursing goes ! Cheers. Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
Could they not flush to hawks or waiting guns ?? My interpretation of the act there could be something in there for a running dog That stalking of flushing out section.. Hare coursing events are banned but a "feild trial" is within the act.. Was there not some cases where people tried to work around the act with guns on hand and muzzled hounds ?? Was that not something to what the FAT Lady got into hot water with?? Dont really care for the Hunting Act but would not break the law myself Quote Link to post

Both were very nice animals.Happy days them. Hows it hanging my friend, them was the days I often think back to when Stat tried to make us walk a straight line, he was like a fecking sergeant major then one fellow falling into a dyke full of water I only jacked in coursing because of having pneumonicosis (coal dust on the lungs) seen some handy coursing dogs at this club I was out with tall Andy the other day, we spoke about you, you were always good company, a good craic , and a genuine sportsman. ATB from us both. 1 Quote Link to post

sowhat 1,572
which was the best out of hthe three geoff? some nice looking animals there. get some up of tay Bess was the best, but Midge I had a soft spot for her, she gave her all, wether it be knocking afew rabbits over, and unbelievable on hares for a straight whippet greyhound (preban of course) I coursed Bess a couple of times at the East of England Lurcher Coursing Club (Penny Taylor & Stat ran this club) where I was on the commitee for a short while, and she was coursed with Kenny Hall's club for 2 seasons winning their annual coursing stake of £50 plus a cracking trophy, I felt as though I'd won the lottery Mo was used for general mouching and lamping, and was a fair animal. thanks. get some up of the rocket (tay). I'll try to find some better one's, this was him winning the racing down Cornwall 1 Quote Link to post
