Super heavy rain, can be frustrating for me at times, if the tunnels flood, and soil gets cloddy etc, it takes me that bit longer to get the job done. I agree its an enjoyable job, if the pressure is

Quite easy really.

Work out how much it costs to get to a job (fuel and wear and tear). I base it on 40p a mile.

Estimate how long a job is going to take (including travel time) for two or three visits (I always calculate for 2.5 visits). Multiply that by an hourly rate and add the two together.

Let's say you think a job will take two hours including travel and you want £25 an hour and travel should cost a tenner, then charge £60. Simples!!

Obviously I don't work that out every time I get a call. I know how much to charge for a mole depending how far away a job is. Any additional moles are charged on top.

We charge a set fee of £60 for one mole, then £20 per mole there after! With a no catch no fee policy. Very rare the mole moves on, in the past 4 years only been 2-3 houses that we've not caught one.

These prices are within 15mile radious, further afield is charged at £80 but that would include the first two or its not worth going!

one one of the grounds i go shooting on ,they hang the moles on barbedwire fence bye the nose why is that

I hang them up near to the field gate to show the farmer that I am catching moles. A lot of gamekeepers of old had gibbet wires to show that they were controlling the vermin.

The reason moles are hung by the nose is because their skin is so tough it is a hard job to get the barbed wire to puncture it.

The large commercial farms are charged on a per visit basis and some of the large farms we cover I have 2 even 3 people would and charge £20 per hour per person.

Most farms upto 250acres will be cleared in 5-7 visits for two people, charged at approx £750-£900

What would the head count be on a farm that size - 300 to 350?

Varies a lot but usually take 100-150 3 times per year from a local 470 acre farm, and there is another that is 750 acres and we only catch 20-40 3 times a year! Depends if the ground is controlled near by and what the area's mole population is!

There is a 120 acre farm in finchampstead that we cleared 80 moles the first clearance and have only caught around 10 per clearance there after!
