halamrose 24
Thanks Nod for the outing yesterday, had fun and now determined to get a rimfire. One of the rabbits we shot has very yellow fat. I've had fatty rabbits a few times before but never such bright yellow. Any one able to explain - I'm thinking it's still good to eat. Cheers, Halam Quote Link to post
jonah. 775
could just be down to the diet that rabbit has had of late. i know that in corn fed chickens / cattle, the fat has a yellow tinge to it. its seen as sign of quality and usually tastes pretty good. i presume the internal organs are clean and of usual size/shape/colour ? halamrose 24
I thought it would be because of diet but others from the same field are normal. Lets see how it tastes! Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
Caught and ate plenty with yellow fat around there kidneys Always seemed to be maize about when the fat was yellow might be coincidence. Maybe someone will shed light on it Quote Link to post
optelic2 48
Ive had this with some of the rabbits on one of my permissions. The internal organs were ok so i still fed them to the dog and he had no complaints. Quote Link to post
savaloy 1
on one of my shoots the farmer had grain feeders out for the pheasants & you always got a rabbit or two from under these & they were alwats full of fat, some of the big bucks had that much fat in them you struggled to see their kidneys but they always made good eating. Skull Hooker 185
Usually a sign that they are in good condition, ie well fed Quote Link to post
The one 8,522
As long as the kidneys had a good covering of fat i wouldnt worry as said it was a healthy rabbit Quote Link to post
