I used to feed excusively raw, but then last year when i swapped jobs and moved house it as a bit much and too messy so went back to dry food.

Im now settled in my new place with big garage, fridge, freezer etc up there for the dogs and can get back into feeding them decent grub.

Ive filled the freezer this week and im feeding chicken carcasses or lamb ribs every morning and then at night a meal of brown bread, minced meat or green tripe, eggs, fish, cod liver oil, keepers mix etc.

Ive found a slaughterhouse local that sell dog mince for 25p per lb. Now i really dont know whats in it. Its dark in colour and i can tell there is a fair amount of offal in there - liver/kidney etc, plenty of fat in it.

If i fed this 3 or 4 times a week is this likely to cause a problem if it is full of offal which i predict?

Cheers

you should be able to source minced chicken for less than that, i buy 30 kilo boxs for £14 from a man near where the local track was, however i used to buy all the minced offcuts from our local butcher before it shut and that was always a very dark red, never did my dogs any harm

I can 't see why you would have a problem . You may find the dogs a bit loose at first, if there is a lot of offal in the mince but you are feeding good stuff with it things should soon sort themselves out.

Another poster thought the economy mince was dear, I think its cheap, depends on whom you've tried I suppose.

MInced chicken is fine, but you need red muscle meat to complement it.imo.

Thanks lads.

I thought it might be a good balance, with having the chicken carcass in the morning and then the economy mince at night. They were a bit loose at first but the brown bread seems to stop this.

Well its only my opionion but i dont like feeding too much offal (Liver/heart ect), Likes been said before think of a rabbit and the size of the offal and meat too bone ratio i try for about 10%/15% max when feeding offal

by the way hello tiny7

Hello I have an adult bitch that has been fed on tinned and dry mixer, and I’m thinking of transitioning her to raw and dry mix. I understand it should be done gradually so won’t be changing it overnight but Would just like to know if anyone has any tips or pointers before I start. Also any pitfalls and problems I should be looking out for. Thanks.

I've always had animals, digs cross terrors small house dogs. Rabbits and guinea pigs and birds. I've recently gotten a full 100% pure breed whippet pup. He is about 3 and a half months old. I saw all of the litter and both parents in peraon before i bought him.he comes from a good blood line no health problems. I've Brough him to get his 2nd round of vaccinations and a check up 2 weeks ago in the vets and he was a tad underweight, he just need to be wormed and the weight is coming on nicely. Before I brought him to the vets I used to give him bread and milk slightly warm with dog nuts in the or nine and then again in the evening she told me to stop this. However. Since I've stopped giving him the bread and milk his legs are starting to bow. only the Front Ones And I'm Really Really Worried And FREAKING Out Over him. I have him on full working dog nuts now 3 half cups a day. This has calcium in it and the protein content is 22% is this still to high? Should I go back to giving him the bread and milk? Please help.
