Giro 2,648
I was going to line my Collie cross with a Match dog... Bitch has not had a season since I Got a decent dog sorted... I Fancied a pup off Socks his first cross to a daytime dog but she never whelped But I will be getting a pup off a similar breeding sometime in the near future.. I wanted the cross because my bitch Hybrid collie mix dose not miss much on the lamp and is good daytime hunter finding and flushing game she just lacked a bit for those longer daytime runs. I was hoping combining the saluki type that excells at the daytime game the pups should smash them daytime and retain the bitches good lamping running style/intellegence. Horses for courses but would imagine this cross would suite most hunters that were after ediable game Would you not go down the full saulki line??????? To be honest mate I have never seen either run.. I have asked about on a few forums over the years and genral feel from experianced coursing men was to go for line bred saluki lurcher. I was looking to make my dog that bit better in the daytime, some lads thought whippet/ grey but also thought Dogs would loose stamina. I dont run big open fen land I run more of a mixeture of arable feilds, fell ground and smaller padocks. Just rabbits of mind Whos is Farmer Dave Minshaw Man, what type a lurcher does he keep ?? 1 Quote Link to post

Tommys dogs done as much as anyones in the beam, he told me years back, he was just about sick with the game and his dogs must have been sicker too! Putting one of his to the Beast would have bred some formidable animals... Your pic says so too..!! Quote Link to post

Tidy animal... How were MCphees lamp dogs bred?? TBH I dont know its been published in the lurcher the journal of running dogs that they were beddyx whippet back to whippet/grey or that was the owners prefferd type.I know the half brother to my bitch same dam different saluki hybred sire drew in a qualifire fore the forley millenium and the other dog went through on the toss of a coin.I rate this way of producing good honest type lurchers. 1 Quote Link to post

Giro 2,648
Does he still keep dogs or is he retired ?? Caithness where he used to stay ?? Must of been good back in the day these dog men living with an abundance of game offering lodgings and nights out... These days you have to keep your head down and watch out for lads sticking the knife in and sneeking back on your ground Edited October 19, 2012 by Giro Quote Link to post

My old bitch will be out of the same lines as the dog in the black and white picture but no i havent ever bred my old bitch to keep the line going much to my regret but finding homes for excess pups and dealing with people put me off.
