Gaz_1989 9,539
Has anyone got a dog out of an excellent daytime dog and an excellent lamp dog? When i come to get another dog then i think this is the route i will want to go down. Not particularly bothered about breeding but something out of 2 really good quality dogs doing what they were bred for. How have they turned out? Probably Saluki/Greyhound x Collie/Bull/Whippet/Grey or something along them lines. Cheers Gaz Quote Link to post

Matt3699 142
I had a Bitch when I lived in Ireland that was great both night and day. Used to bag up at least 10 - 20 rabbits a night and used to get 4 out of 5 Hares in the day. She was a 3/4 greyhound with a touch of collie and saluki in the mix. Cracking dog. Very tall but handled the rabbits perfectly. She did take a long time to get 'good' but when she hit around 2 she was unstoppable. Unfortunately I lost her to a horrible disease when she was 5. Not the best photo. But this was her. EDIT: Whoops misread the question. However, the Dam to her was a coursing dog. Crossed down from a champion track greyhound. The Sire was a lamping dog on top of his game. They produced the best dog I have ever owned. So to answer your question. Yes, they can produce cracking all rounders. But as you know, every dog is different. Edited October 18, 2012 by Matt3699 1 Quote Link to post

But a lot of dogs often have the 'edge' on one or the other. Quote Link to post
Sam H 80
Think he means a cross between say a line bred coursing dog and a good working lurcher, i quite fancy the idea myself. You cant be far off that with saluki collie greyhound though anyway can you Gareth? 1 Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
I was going to line my Collie cross with a Match dog... Bitch has not had a season since I Got a decent dog sorted... I Fancied a pup off Socks his first cross to a daytime dog but she never whelped But I will be getting a pup off a similar breeding sometime in the near future.. I wanted the cross because my bitch Hybrid collie mix dose not miss much on the lamp and is good daytime hunter finding and flushing game she just lacked a bit for those longer daytime runs. I was hoping combining the saluki type that excells at the daytime game the pups should smash them daytime and retain the bitches good lamping running style/intellegence. Horses for courses but would imagine this cross would suite most hunters that were after ediable game Edited October 18, 2012 by Giro 5 Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
A well bred coursing dog with plenty of pace should do it all. That is to say, not Saluki saturated, but with enough to give day time stamina. I've had one or two, and they performed just as well on the lamp and on charlie and other stuff as they did on fen hares, and I'm not kennel blind. Quote Link to post
poacher28 120
worker x worker is the main thing to remember. i bred a litter of this type and they clicked.it was 2 generations back that i done lamper x coursing dog, i liked what i had from the mating alot and the few that went to friends done very well across the board, so i went on to put mother to son, in result of that i got the dogs i run today, i know i made the right move as wht i got now really do run well and the one bitch i got is the best ive ever owned. 1 Quote Link to post
