earlystart 56
Do you like a dog to throw at a hedge or go more steady? Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
I like a dog to hit cover like theres nothing there. Not only is this more exciting to watch it will catch more rabbits as most hit cover and just sit there. But theres more chance of injury. Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
A good lamp dog doesn't pull up at the hedge IMO, there is alot of rabbits to be caught in the hedge bottom. two runs last night, both rabbits caught after being pushed from the hedge bottom during the run. Edited to add, A nutty dog throwing itself into a hedge at full speed is pretty undesirable and a accident waiting to happen. Edited October 18, 2012 by Sirius Quote Link to post
mighty celt 996
i like a dog to hit the hedge, but seen two dogs die over hitting a cover with a wall behind its not nice, like a dog that uses its head and pulls up a little before the hedge,my pal has a dog and its an accident waiting to happen full pelt smashes ditches heart in mouth stuff watching her run. driller killer 33
Dont mind them following in to the hedge after, maybe not throw themselves tho! Might catch a few less but save money on vet bills 1 Quote Link to post
troter58 1,711
any dog that hits a edge 100 mph is not going to last very long i like a dog to go to the edge but use its head a clever dog will catch you more in the long run as it will still be putting bunnies in the bag long after the edge hitter is in the ground atb troter 7 Quote Link to post

A dog that gives 100% is allways gonna run the risk of not reaching retirement. Thats allpart of the game. Dogs that are not afraid of cover are supior to dogs that wont face it. End of. Its all upto personal choice but i dont go lamping to lose rabbits that have reached cover. ATB Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
A sensible dog who works hard is always better for lamping IMO, I like longevity for the rabbiting game. 1 Quote Link to post

Matt3699 142
I used to know a guy with a whippet that was so gamey it would run full speed into a hedge like it wasn't even there.. Ended up killing itself running into a gate at full speed. Quote Link to post
earlystart 56
I've had two bull greyhounds and a bull wippet run full speed at fences and gates just wouldnt take no for an answer, I'm not running them down just saying what's happened to me and they were always getting hurt. No after an argument! Quote Link to post
cocopops 6
id would prefer a dog to slow up rather than a kamakazy at hedges Quote Link to post
Brian-911 210
Yeah have to say think I'd rather be a few rabbits light than a wallet light or worse a dog light ! Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
It doesnt have to hit the hedge at 100mph to be effective around them. My dog will follow a rabbit into cover, and if hes right on its arse he will plunge in, but miostly you can see him looking ahead, slowing a bit and picking his line. Quote Link to post
