Peter Leemooch 160
there you go exactly britishbull when these crocdiles are bred with no aim in life over enough years you watch that instinct start to wane and fade until its barely got the instinct to kill a duck you never see plummers pushed so rats have become the level aye it's work but come on Peter, why bother making a comment on a topic you quite clearly have no knowledge of other than the utter sh*te that you've heard by other people, who in turn have never seen a decent one work but still feel the need to make a comment,by all means contribute when you have the experience, but you certainly have no working knowledge of this breed or what they are capable of,WM wm you are insulting me just because my experience with this breed is different to yours why ? I am sure that good ones exist I have just never seen one that was my first post my second was simply explaining what happens when you stop breeding worker to worker are you saying plummers have such drive they don't need to be proven worker to produce? i have seen 10 or 12 over the years ok not many but enough to have an opinion and in my experience they are either too headstrong or too fragile weather bushed rat anything I've never seen one face a fox that's not to say they won't again my experience i think good working plummers are rare sorry if you don't like that Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
Peter,"presumption is the mother of all f*ck ups" especially when it comes to dogs, just because I've never seen a decent border I would never presume they're not out there,as I know they are by the many lads that bear testament to such, the many women and middle class men you see parading around at plummer terrier shows with oversized unmarked dogs are not a fair representation of the many working lads that own and work plummers and I know of many that are heavilly worked as much as any breed you care to mention,we as a breed have had to suffer the indignity of insults by many that have never even seen one work,I personally would agree that not enough working lads post up in response to criticism but as I know their capabilities I will always defend them at every opportunity I can,I only breed worker/worker myself and that goes for the lads that get out there working them as well, there is becoming a seperation now of lads that are more interested in working them and post's like yours will only put off genuine lads that are thinking of working plummers but cannot stand the stick you get for owning one,you might do well to remember they are an allround dog that can work anything not a specialised digging dog,if you live anywhere near the wirral I will give you a day out that will let you see that they are not all "show ponies",I will end by asking you what dogs you own and how much work do they get?? as it may well have a bearing on your low opinion of plummers,WM 2 Quote Link to post
Peter Leemooch 160
my opinion was based on what i have seen in the field not show ponys as you call them i can't see why you would defend dogs that did not make it you like the breed that's ok but even the most ardent fanof any breed couldn't be so arrogant to think there's not poor dogs of the breed any breed will have bad specimens i told how my experience of them has been poor dogs again i say that's not saying every dog of the breed is bad I'm not that ignorant i don't know how my opinion if the dogs i have seen work effects anybody or should i lie and say they was good i currently work patts they are worked in one way or another 3 maybe 4 times per week at various quarry are they great dogs no have i owned better yes but are they good enough for the job they do yes i feel more people are working patts than plummers so bound to be more good dogs but i still accept there's some bad you won't seem to believe there are working plummers that are poor dogs Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
Peter,I think somewhere along the replies you've misunderstood,I totally agree with you over 95% of plummers only see rats or show but there are still many that work more, but your post read a lot different than your later answers, out of all my posts (786) most are spent arguing with lads trying to score cheap shots aimed at plummers. I've found that most lads start terrierwork with patts as they are just digging dogs, most get smashed up and are then unfit for work for 2 weeks,so most see the answer is to buy more terriers for when one is in sickbay and so the cycle continues, but as you gain experience then a lot want more out of a terrier, some will buy a jack russell or some other intelligent terrier like a plummer that will bay and not get in too tight and be punished for it and their nose is excellent,I work my dogs everyday and need a dog to be fit and not laid up,I also use them for bushing and ferreting,I fly my hawk over them and they even get some ratting,I also shoot over them, so to me they are invaluable but best of all they are a great house dog that fits in well with all the family,so the long and the short of it is that plummers are an all round terrier and not a specialist digging dog,WM Edited October 27, 2012 by wirral countryman Quote Link to post
Peter Leemooch 160
how did my later posts read different my first post said ive never seen a good one and ive still not i not asked for a run down on your activitys nor will i give one on mine i use the best dog for the job needed i am sorry my opinion on what that is differs to yours the way you spend 786 posts defending plummers only tells me you are totally breed blind which by your replies is pretty clear i don't much care what name a dog carries the ones i feed will be whatever breed or cross of breeds works best by the sound of it you would have a Plummer course a hare as part of a bag of tricks to support the breed i repeat I have never seen a Plummer i would own as so few are worked properly but I do accept ther are good ones out there Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
Peter, how would you know its the best dog for the job if you've never seen a good one,I at least have heavilly worked all types of terriers before settling on what I keep now,if anyone is breedblind it must be you,I keep the best dogs for the job out of experience not hearsay, try getting out more and gain some experience for yourself before making assumptions about what they can and can't do,any fool can work a hard stupid dog but to get work out of the more intelligent breeds takes carefull entering and sounds to be beyond you,on your own admission even your patts are'nt the best ,so if the cap fits then wear it,sensible words are lost on young boys without experience,if you had looked at previous posts from me you'd of seen many pics (pre-ban) back to the early 70's of many types of terrier with allsorts of stuff, that experience is obviously something you sadly lack to make the daft comments so far, when you've been there and done it for over 40yrs I will gladly give your words some credance untill then I cannot take you seriously,WM Quote Link to post
