any opinion on a stainless barrel

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've put in my FAC and got a visit tonight, he advised me to go co-terminous, so will do. This looks very promising to me getting a 17hmr am 223.

I have looked at the Browning, could anyone clarify the difference between X-bolt and A-bolt??

I like the look of a Stainless barrel, but is it ideal when foxing with a lamp? Will the fox notice the whiteness of the barrel in the light?

Many thanks

Will the fox notice your hands and face, the stars and moon, the house/road/car/farm lights in the background, etc etc etc, whilst being inconspicuous is obviously a good idea I don't know of anyone who has lost a fox due to the glint of a stainless barrel!

BUT, why do you want one anyway?

Stainless makes life that little bit easier when it comes to wet conditions,

its all down to personal choice really, i have a stainless on my foxing gun and can tell you it wont make one bit of difference,

Good luck with whatever you buy,

Snap.

Just because it looks nice................

Is there no point?

What do you suggest I go for, I have shot a couple of rounds from a 223 Browning. Anybody care to explain the difference between A-bolt and X-bolt in the Browning range?

Thanks guys

Ok, possibly marginally easier to keep clean compared to a blued barrel, marginally better weather handling, but we don't live in the Arctic, hardly worth it even for Wales, and whilst considering that, think about the stock type as well!

Probably not worth the debate, just get what you like best!

I’ve been thinking of getting a gun license, my criminal record and mental health record are clean, but my mother(the house I want to keep the gun) has a criminal record from 20 years ago, will this effect my application

Well I got 2 unused table clamps and a need for stability.
Cant afford the new style tripods <on furlough pay>,so I thought make your own. So drill n tap m10x1.5 in the base of said bracket .
Cut 2 pieces 7.5x3.5cm steel plate and fix to clamp .Drill hole and fit split pin to stop wind out in turnscrew. Then cut leather patches to fit and bond with contact adhesive, allowing 24 hours  to cure and Bob's your job.
Stable, free and hands free atb

While you were playing with your new rifles I went and got me a 3" hatsan ford escort 12g and to be honest I am quite impressed!
I put 28, 29, 32 and 36 gram loads through it and home loads some of which were subsonic and it cycled the lot! And with no O ring present!
I eventually did put an O ring on it but it was to thick and just would not allow the hammer to strike the firing pin although the action was locked. It's quite a precise fit. I later fitted a smaller section ring and now it fires. The reason for the ring despite perfect function without one is that the barreled action is quite loose without it but with it it all snugs up nice.
The one stock adjuster made it a perfect fit for me too. As autos go it is a pleasant cyclic sensation too, not effecting aiming much at all. It's no lightweight but not ridiculous either.
No pictures as it's just a cheap auto and I have been busy building an arc to survive the floods!!
Now, just got to wait untill September and hope the new world order movement don't get a knee jerk law passed banning duck and goose shooting one day before the season!
Oh yes, no oil in the action at all !
