Border terrier X Whippet

Patterdale X Whippet

Etc

Terriers crossed woth whippets other than bedlingtons for ferreting, bushing ratting etc.

I have always wondered about a Lakeland or Patterdale cross, I bet they would make game little beasts.

FOR ME AT LEAST ............. I WOULD PREFER A PATT X WHIPPET OR A RUSSEL X WHIPPET THAN A BEDDIE CROSS , VERY FEW BEDDIES ARE WORKED HARD THESE DAYS SO FINDING A LITTER THATS BEEN STUDDED BY A HARD WORKING BEDDIE DOG IS RARE ,

i've got a pat whipet mat 15 inch to shoulder beltin bushin bitch works with ferrets and looks like a skinny patt beltin nose on her works hedgehog to tduck meaning she'll scent up anything really tidy little bitch

I have to disagree with you there duckwing about pats and russells being a better cross over a whippet,granted working beddies are rarer than by-gone years,that much is true,but they still exist.

You only have to look towards a thread on the terrier posts on here (swansea jack )

 

When you talk about terrier x whippet your talking about a rabbit dog and the way i see it is pats and russels over whippets would make no better than bushing dogs,maybe pinning a few here and there in cover,your best results would be had with the cross working along side a faster dog when bunnies were put out into the clear,eg a beddie cross Mysef persenally prefer the beddie x grey but you have to look to how many keep the whippet crosses for rabbits to justify it being a handy worker

We had a lakeland x whippet a few years ago and he was superb.

 

We never left him at home, regardless of what we were doing, bushing for foxes, ferreting, lamping etc.

 

He probably wasn't as good a lamper as some crosses with more sighthound, but he caught us plenty. Likewise he wouldn't have talen a fox single-handed but he's sure as hell try his best.

 

Fantastic little dog, I'd give my right arm to have him back.

if any one can remember last november i had a litter from my 3/4 bred whip 1/4 bed bitch to a JRTXBORDER/LAKELAND , i posted quite a few pics of the pups , a close mate as one of my bitch pups i will try get a pic of her as she is now , shes a game little bitch , shes just starting out out moment , the litter was varied as in size ect , , most of them become whippety sized/build with JRT heads , but the to dogs from the litter was terrier shaped , also one bitch had a distinctive blue eyes which still remain in the bitch , didnt know were that as come from .

I think a border whippet would be a handy wee cross, if I had a whippet bitch and some good homes lined up, I might be tempted to try it out for a pocket sized little ferreting companion

Me and Royston used to knock about with this young lad named Nathan,...he has a whippet crossed with a JRT,...hand on heart, one of the best allrounders i ever seen, for her size of course!...she was great out ferreting/ratting, she caught the first rabbit she ever seen on the lamp...carried back, she done fox, and even caught and held a Roe that she bounced of a fence one time!...it dragged her about 100 yards until young Nathan could dispatch it...she would go into ANYTHING!...and with a young keen, owner she was often tested on everything!..lol...she caught ducks, would go to ground, she even used to course hares...of course she would never catch them, but you would see her three fields away, the hare 60 yards ahead, just plodding along, and the little tan and white bitch going flat out!..lol...a great sight...she followed that lad everywhere, and took to any form of hunting we threw at her...she was a natural predator...she was about 16" and roughly 20lbs i think?...we used to use her in orchards, on rabbits, and she was bloody quick over 20 yards, snapping them up like nothing!...if i had of stayed back home, i would have tried to make a little line off her...maybe put a whippet or 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddie on her...a realy cracking dog!...she opened the world of hunting to that young lad...and i got a lot of pleasure of watching that little bitch stand and wait paitently for her young master to enter a ferret while she marked...if i was back home, i would have had one of her pups at the drop of a hat!...
