Black Rabbit

This brings a smile to my face!

I live in wrexham, north wales and have alot of permison in shropshire where black rabbits are a common ocurence!

We had 5 last week and only 2 gray, One permisiion seems to be over run with them and they seem to be bigger and fatter than the average wild rabbit! After speaking to the farm owner, who is a very keen hunter, (but dosent have the time to ferret) he said it is a strain in the natural gene which changes somethink in rabbits genetics which causes them to be a solid black colour which is why they are becoming more popular!

thanks joe.

You get the odd black rabbit down this way too..They are often specific to one particular area and will be there for generations. Sandy ones are pretty rare. Get a few different coloured ones which are obvious offspring from escapee pet rabbits- nearly always around semi suberbia. They are still wild as. I've only ever got one pure albino rabbit but still think he had pet rabbit genetics. Get a few with white blotches which I always thought had something to do with inbreeding.

I had a similar thing a few years ago. My Mrs had 2 black cats, the Harris hawk got used to them and didn't bat an eyelid . Then when I bolted black rabbits , she would anticipate the bolt, set off, but immediately swing round and come back! She hit normal rabbits like a sledgehammer!

Not all are natural anomalies, some are down to released pets breeding with wild ones. :)

They all look the same when they are skinned :D

it look like a lot of pet ones have been let off a round your area . it could be a trait from years back .

saw one on a horse field once. my cousin was on about them on the way to the grounds so when we was on the field and my cousin said black rabbit over there i didint believe him and told him to fuk off playing about. then when i did look and saw it i forgot i had a gun in my hand and just watched it hop into the hedge. thats why in my signature its one of my goals. never saw it there again despite going back a few times to try get it.
