How rumours start

Recommended Posts

Last night, there were 2 police cars, 2 fire engines and a team of "CSI" types all running around outside a house up the road from me. Obviously we didn't know what they were there for, so my nosey wife went off to the house next door to the action to ask her mate if she knew what was going on.

In the space of 10 minutes, they had agreed that the husband had murdered the wife, (hence CSI), and as she was a big lady, the fire crews were called to "extract the body" and the police to arrest the "murderer".

That's odd, because I saw the "victim" walk past the house about an hour ago. Still like to know what it was all about though. :hmm:

Sounds like my old home town where everybody knows everybody else's business and if they don't they make it up! My mum works in the local supermarket and hears all sorts of rumours on the checkout. Went to her house once and she told me the bloke Trevor who used to be mayor had died. He had been ill and been into hospital so this one was at least plausible for a change. Left her house to go home, and on the way passed ole Trev reversing his car onto his driveway! Phoned my mum and told her that I didn't know dead people could reverse cars!

I blame it on all the stupid soaps, all murder, robbery, rape etc. It's created a society where for many people the truth of reality is not exciting enough, hence people see something in their street and let their imagination run riot :icon_eek:

You know I kind agree with that kenny. I never used to buy into that influenced by the tv. Thought it was a cop out.however some of the crimes you see these days, could be straight out of a horror movie or a video game. I'm now convinced that some of those hard core video games would influence done weaker kids who are allowed to spend hours and hours playing it unchecked. Certain something has changed when you see some of the horrendous acts on people and animals. I mean come on what sane teenager would set fire to a dog. That's got to have come from somewhere!

I refer to my previous post. I'm not nosey! Apart from that my local nick doesn't have a grasp of what day it is. Once my mrs gets in she'll have a new theory anyhow.

And so many of these people who play on games (and allow their kids to) where it's all violence and killing, think those of us who shoot and hunt are barbaric!

i don't know about that mate, certain places have always been the same. Small town mentality. Nosey b*****ds have got to know the ins and outs of everything so they can gossip, they just fill the missing bits in with bullshit. There was police tape by a pub in the town a few years back. By the time I'd spoken to a few people about the town it was there because there was a double stabbing one dead, then a rape, then a big fight the night before. Turns out it was none of the above, somebody'd ran into the office when the pub was busy and nicked the safe!

My town isn't particularly small. I think it's WOMAN mentality rather than small town mentality. Having said that, there was an incident a few weeks ago with a car on the main road. Police tape everywhere and the forensics guys. Mrs walshie's take was that it was a stolen car. Truth turned out that the sweeney had been chasing armed robbers and rammed them off the road. So that's twice she's been wrong...in her whole life.
