BEARINATOR 2,872
A staff is a bull, at 14 months old his hormones will be playing up and he will be trying to show his dominance. Neutering can calm them down a bit but if you take it to dog training classes and it attacks another dog you risk being prosecuted under the dda 1 Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
You shouldnt own a dog if you cant control it. Be harsh with it and show your the boss. Dog training classes tend to be no good, ive heard. But its still young. So it can easily be sorted. 2 Quote Link to post

U.L.D.A 289
Stay on top of it be firm but fair and you take control of the dog not the dog in control of you imo you dont seem to clued up on the breed (i brought a staff hes become a beast hes got to be crossed with something) a bull needs a experiance not kids standing on street corners using them as a fashion statment people never try to see if the breed a dog suits them just buy them people under estmaite the bull there a powerful dog in the wrong hands dangerous and the street corners arnt going to help the breed either 3 Quote Link to post
MAIN MAN 277
I would get the dog a new home with someone who knows the type he is, he could give you more trouble than he is worth. Quote Link to post

Ant9x 25
The rescue centres are full of Staffs with owners who have had similar problems, maybe this is not the breed for you, but good to know your sticking with it. What food are you feeding him with ? try a change of diet which maybe more suitable especially if he's on a high energy / protein diet for working dogs. Make sure he has plenty of exercise, if possible take him swimming which is great for tiring high drive dogs, lead train him to walk to heel without pulling, and get the basic training, recall, sit, down, stay completed, and in stages throughout the training socialise him with other dogs if necessary do this when he is really tired. I agree neutering can calm such dogs, but for me would be a last resort, that you may regret at a later date. Good Luck 1 Quote Link to post
KawValley 131
Well, I have a retriever and something is wrong with it. The damn dog won't stop retrieving things. So annoying! I think I'll give it away or maybe kill it. 8 Quote Link to post

Also do you think dog training would help? I find this typical of people who should NOT keep staffs. You bought a dog as a staff(YOUR CHOICE)and then you are shocked and surprised when he fights,I have news for you this is what a lot of staffs do THEY ARE A FIGHTING DOG.As for some of the comments be tough with him, punch him, hit him,why it is his nature that is why staff fanciers love them, because of his temperament. What will you do if he grabs a dog by the throat and starts trying to kill him,how will you stop him?kick him,hit him with a stick, ask him nicely to stop immediately.Do you know the signs to look for before he fights(did you not learn before you got him)What happens when he swallows somebody's yorkie and they don't share your sense of humour and call the Police? The dog is put down and the breed gets more bad press.I rest my case. 7 Quote Link to post
