im looking for a cheap(ish) air rifle in the north east england area (eg: hartlepool, middlesbourgh, seaham, gateshead ect) snap-barrle, co2 or air im not really fustted.

.22 (5.5mm) or .177 (4.5mm)

i know there is a 1mm diffrance to the .22 and .177 but i would like to know is there a signifacent diffrance between them both, ive heard of people saying that with a .22 you have got more stopping power and a .177 you have better bullet projectory in the air but ive also heard downsides to the .177 that for a kill you must be dead on aim to the targets head...

is this true or is this just chinees whispers

many thanks, Jake

all depends on the money your prepared to cough up mate if its just for plinking about get a cheap springer if you intend to go hunting and want to go serious a pcp is the way forward -but theres alot of pcp lads going back to springers -not me though-billy

are right well ive used them all but i do prefare the pcp. the only reason i do is because with snap barrles you really only have one shot to kill otherwise your knackered unlike the pcp, and as far as co2 goes i dont really rate them due to the fact that you only get about 20 to 30 decent shots out of them then the pettles start dropping, dont get me wrong ive managed to kill a few rabbits with co2 rifles but i do think they are a pain in the backside haha

just wanted to answer your question on calibre's, the main differences are basicly what you mentioned.. with a .22 you are putting more lead down usually about 5+grains more lead if not alot more, which equals a slower round and more punch but it also uses more air. where as a .177 flies faster and the trajectory is flatter. With .177 its said that you have to be more accurate this is mainly because they penetrate alot more in comparison to .22 but tbh this shouldnt matter a good hunter will always go for clean kills.

As anyone will tell you its personal preferance :D

the only pcp I know of for that price is ags but not sure if anygood maybe 2nd hand but if u after pcp u got the filling to think about too, I got a .22 springer and I can take rabbits all day as long as im at the right distance i practice as 35-40 paces as i find it easier to judge a pace than say guessin at 1/2 a football ;pitch when in the field

yeah ive already got a filling bottle and pump from my other 2 rifles i used to have which were a logun s-16 mk2 and an air arms s410 carbine. too be truthful with you mate, i really wish i did not get rid of those 2 rifles but money problems forced me to give them up, but now im back on my feet they are like rocking horse s**t to get hold of now for a cheap(ish) price haha

Hi guys I and 2 mates are looking for some permission for some rabbit hunting in cornwall but can’t find where to ask. I and my mates are all greatly skilled with air rifles from just sitting in the back of our gardens with targets roughly 50-100yards and want to move onto small game so if anyone knows of anyone in cornwall that would give us permission please let me know.

Hi, we're having a sudden rat infestation on our small holding in North Cotswolds. Wondering if there are any people around with ratting dogs who want a bit of work?
