4" block work pointed right then painted will be fine no need to render. And there are loads of single skin garage's.

It might take more than a day, as there is a limit to how high they can build in one day, as the weight of the bricks pushes out the wet cement at the bottom. Again get a builder to give you a price.

another bit of advice gareth, fit troughings and a downpipe onto your kennel roof and run into a 40 galon nylon water butt, that way you have ample water to wash out the runs with free of charge and also for the dogs water bowls, all free. simple little things, but so time and labour saving in the long run if you can try and incorporate it into your design before you start.
