mintmoore 9
Recently gained permission on a pig farm that holds a good number of rats, ive found the holes running at the back of some hay bales alomg side of pig shed. wanting to set live catch trap, tried a huge chunk of peanut butter with the cage alongside a nearby hay bail but they seem weary to go near the bait as its now been 2 days untouched, Any tips on trapping in farmyards. baits? position ? ect advice would help , Will get some photos [bANNED TEXT] i go up and check today of position ect, Cheers Atb Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Rats are notoriously wary of anything new. Best to site it against a wall IMO. Leave the trap there for a few more days, don't touch it and they will go in. Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
Aye rats are wary of anything new can take up to a fortnight before you catch one Quote Link to post
unclepesta 101
dont put it on there run put it one side,it sounds like you found a well worn part beside bail and placed trap on it this will cause instant fear put live catches near runs not on em in rats case or expect neophobic reaction to be longer bait around trap also to relax em before entering, live catching with big cages can produce large numbers but not small cages,if your trying to trap and control numbers think bigger on live multicatch or set up tunnels around barn for fenns and bodygrips if trapping is your choice, try a little rat snaring on whips, your gonna have some fun by sound of it Quote Link to post

Rhodey 96
Put a small amount of peanut butter in the entrance to the trap and a lot in the trap. Set the tread nearly vertical so small knocks wont set it off. But if you can put a piece of wood along the sides and across the back so they can only access bait from the trap entrance. stubby 175
you have permission on a pig farm, yet reading your reply it sounds like you're using ONE TRAP???????????? seriously, for any trapping to be effective you need to obliterate the area with traps, cant see the farmer being happy with one rat every few days your better of either placing some bait down and shooting, night vision or mk4 fenn traps 1 Quote Link to post
