luke 2
at the end of the day if it wasnt for the boys that keep greyhounds and whippets i dont know where the lurcher seen would be oh i do non existent and as for whippets taking foxes how many of your big fox killing dogs would fly in to a wolf the way a whippet flys in to a fox Quote Link to post
Guest markbrick1
at the end of the day if it wasnt for the boys that keep greyhounds and whippetsi dont know where the lurcher seen would be oh i do non existent and as for whippets taking foxes how many of your big fox killing dogs would fly in to a wolf the way a whippet flys in to a fox a whippet is not a fox dog,my oppinion is there ok for the rabbits and ferreting and racing at the meetings, they havnt the stamina of the lurcher, and thats why we have lurchers and were not using greyhounds and whippets mark Quote Link to post
brock 11
most of these pics are with dogs doubled up.says it all really. i agree totally with markbrick, they can be good fun bushing tho, with their off the mark speed, they just lack the stamina for long hard, cold nights work in my opinion. there are ones that take fox no doubt, but as a whole the bigger percentage doesnt, and the ones that do will without a doubt have the battle scars to prove, its wrong really to put such a small dog into a fox,as its gona come out of the fight totally smashed,as thats all it is,is a fight. snoopdog 1,256
i agree with brock superb rabbiting dogs and they have very quick early pace but to be honest a pure whippet is a rabbiting dog nothing else ...great little dogs if its only bunnies your after ... Quote Link to post

macker 5
had my time with the wippets. had some great crack with them. tough they are limited. have dug to a wippet too. tough he enetered after the terrier to my amazment he was still in grips with a large fox when we dug down. gave him a couple of foxes and caught one in a ditch on his own when i got in the fox was winning but he still had hold after it i noticed the fox had left his face in a bad way. not just a couple of punctures . sice then it is my opinion that it not fair on wippets to hunt fox. tought they will try they will sour as even the big dogs bred for do sour some times.what chance has our game and inteligent wippet got. great dogs for rabbits much like a terrier chasing a rat. and when watching these dogs on a hare i used to be amazed at how many strides they can put in on a course. a pleasure to kennel too. a good thread this one macker Quote Link to post

blackwhippet 7
A good whippet will run its balls off all day or night for you and still want more If they`re from the right blood they aren`t shivering things either. My bitch will work all day or night winter spring summer autumn without any bother I`d agree that some show bred dogs would struggle, but if they`re bred the right way you can`t beat a whippet as a rabbit dog and for the occasional hare and fox retrieving live to hand 23 in 34lb ped whippet dog Sooty Sam lines both sides So lads, a good whippet will do everything a small lurcher will do, you pays yer money and yer yakes yer choice Edited June 22, 2007 by blackwhippet Quote Link to post
