Cheers lads. I'm gonna start this week after work digging the trench etc.

It's gonna be a few weeks process due to free time (a lack of it) and funding (a lack of it) but if I don't start it now then I never will and ive always wanted a good kennel set up with drainage.

I will start a little journal thread with photos and to ask for advice.

Cheers.

Okay more questions...

I've decided on connecting to mains. It is doable. Just been out and measured up and planned my route for pipe work etc.

I'm having a 5 metre x 3 metre concrete base. On this will be 3 runs out of galv panels. 1 for the terrier 3m x 1m and then 2 for the lurchers 3m x 2m.

What I need to know is where to put the grids in the runs? Where the water goes down?

1 in the corner of the base for all pens? 1 in each pen? One channel along the front?

Has anyone got photos of how they have done it? Thanks.

Gaz.

New connections to our sewer system

All domestic customers are entitled to connect their drains to our sewer system. Written approval from us is required before any new connection to a sewer is made. We need 21 calendar days notice.

We reserve the right to make the connection to our sewer, and ask you to pay the costs. We will give notice of our intention to make the connection within 14 days of receiving your completed application. We aim to start work on the connection within 21 working days of the last approval necessary for the works to be in place and 60 days to implement. In this case, Ofwat has powers to consider disputes about the costs. If we decide to allow you or your contractor to do the work, it must be done under our supervision and at your cost. You must give us at least one working day’s notice to arrange the supervision.

We can in certain circumstances refuse permission for new connections to our sewers. For example, we would not allow a foul drain to be connected to a surface water sewer. Appeals about the entitlement to

Thanks for the heads up though.

Ignore if you want but if you or the dogs piss containates the a rainwater sewage system they will trace it to your unlawful work and if you own your house face the risk of legal action and you may loss what you have worked so hard for.

Like driving with no insurance it no brainer The last on say on this just polite advice as would not want a feck up with advice from well meaning members to bite you on your arse  ATB Cookie

Remember to put a trap at the top where the run is .... If you run a pipe straight into the sewer all the smell from that sewer drain will come back up into your run and stink like fukc ..........

I'm tapping into the mains mate. Where the shit from the house goes.

I meant I will ignore the bit about applying for permission.

Cheers

Sensible advice

And before anyone connects to the drains, they should make sure it's a 'foul water' drain that runs to a sewage treatment plant, and not a 'surface water' drain which will empty straight into a river or stream. Otherwise fish and other aquatic animals and plants will be affected, especially by detergents or other cleaning chemicals.
