ggw 5
Personally found staples alot easier to use and faster to heal. Spoke to a friend who works in hospital and he is of opinion if he can staple always would as heal bettwr and quicker

dogs-n-natives 1,182
Get mine off my vet. Sterile suture packs. Its easy to do, but takes a bit more skill than a stapler. I like them as you can carry them in a pocket and not even feel its there. Has saved a few of my dogs lives, and for that I feel they are worth having.
skycat 6,173
It's also a lot quicker and easier to put staples in than stitches: with stitches you have two 'ouch' moments for each stitch. With staples it is just one 'ouch' per staple. Also important to put them in properly by pinching the two sides of the wound together so they are raised above the underlying tissue. I'd never use stitches again as staples are so much better. Generally take them out in 7-10 days. 5 days may be OK for very minor wounds, but IMO better to leave in for a good week to avoid the wound breaking down again, though of course it does depend on the cause of the wound and where it is on the body. If it is in a very mobile area, where the skin moves a lot, then leave up to 10 days.
socks 32,253
I much prefer to stitch than staple as you can feel the wound coming together where as with a staple once pressed that's it you can't alter the tension and you don't have any flexibility ...............
Peter Leemooch 160
I've only ever stitched. when you buy a stapler does it come with the removal tool or is that bought separately ?

alfieboy87 0
Stitching will give a better finish but requires more skill and a still animal! Stapling is quicker and therefore a bit more accurate but bit more fiddly to take out. A good stitch and a good staple fix will heal at the same time, perhaps harder with stitching to make sure skin edges are 100% together (requires a bit more skill)..... Peter Leemooch 160
the reason stitching is better how many times is a wound straight and clear enough to staple and what about punctures that need a stitch often a staple is just to big and cumbersome for fiddly stuff
