Ive recently been told that soft wood shavings are harmful to ferrets is this true???

i use wood shavings with no problems at all. I think who ever's told you are getting confused with saw dust which would cause problems

saw dust makes um sneazzzzeeee lots . shavings are ok i think, i know a few people that keep there stinkers on them .

Shaving's are great nearly everything can be bedded in them it sawdust that can cause breathing problems with the dust in it

I get a compresed bale of shavings for 6.50 at the local equine feed suppliers google ones in your area can't go wrong

i would say hardwood shavings would be more harmful than softwood shaving, timbers such as oak and ash when sanded can cause breathing problems in people, i would stick to softwood shavings!

Think they might been sawdust. Most woodshavings for animals now has been dust extracted anyway so should be ok. I use shavings.

Same here cleaning them out every day and a total clean out twice a week with straw ,hay or shredded paper would leave a lot of bulky mess with shavings its just a black bin liner full .and if you want you can get scented shaving's

yeah stopped using bedding a while back just loads of shavings i put mine in the garden recycle bin in summer and when they stop taking that bag it and bin it in winter. atb sp

The reason you might have heard it is some people have said that soft wood pine and cedar can cause respiratory problems. (links below) Though loads and loads of people use it and there ferrets are just fine just make sure you don't get sawdust, get shavings.
