I used compressed shavings all year round in both sleeping and main compartments, never had a problem.

same here an never had a problem in over 20 yrs. atb sp

 

Same here cleaning them out every day and a total clean out twice a week with straw ,hay or shredded paper would leave a lot of bulky mess with shavings its just a black bin liner full .and if you want you can get scented shaving's

yeah stopped using bedding a while back just loads of shavings i put mine in the garden recycle bin in summer and when they stop taking that bag it and bin it in winter. atb sp

The reason you might have heard it is some people have said that soft wood pine and cedar can cause respiratory problems. (links below) Though loads and loads of people use it and there ferrets are just fine just make sure you don't get sawdust, get shavings.
