Dranny GLC 112
Is it possible to teach a 3 year old saluki bull x grayhound to cum back to me when out lamping. He wasn't trained a year ago when I got him and I lamped with him last season and just thought it was me because it was my first season but iv been out 4 times this season and he just takes ages to come back to me. Floyd17586 454
Id still take him maybe just hold him up and watch other dogs for abit.but if you bought him a year ago and he wasnt trained.no ignorance meant but you should have started from scratch with him them.just be patient wit him and make it fun for him and give him a treet evrytym he comes to ya and you dhould. Dranny GLC 112
Ye sound I'm new to the sport and just thought it was me why he wasn't coming back and thought over time he would start to. in the day he comes straight away it's just at night the lad I got him off worked away and didn't train him. He seems to be getting worse taking longer to come back. Quote Link to post
Dranny GLC 112
It would be nice to here off of some other lads which have been in my situation and been successfully in training a dog that's not a pup. I like the dog and gonna try hard to get him on track. I can't go on like this its taking all the fun out of my sport. I just wasn't sure on taking him with us or waiting till he trained up but like you say I'll just keep him on his lead and he can watch the others. Quote Link to post
john rust 45
To be honest Floyd had given some good advance , the only thing I would add is if your using the dog for lamping take him out with a dummy/ ball with hi vis on lamp it and get him retrieving that back to you. It isn't going to happen over night so dont get disheartend but you only get out what you put in, and when it all comes together there's is know better feeling. Atb John Quote Link to post

Been in the same situation as u once dog is now retired but it took a long time for him too get the picture what he was meant too be doing alough he was always generally happy but I found I never got the same loyalyte and wanting too work for me as I have had with other dogs that have been brought up from pups it put me off taking on any dog over the age of 14 weeks but u have Too get a real good bond with ur dog try and get him to want too work for you and not himself but and just keep up with he's manners and training it might just click like myne did or maybe not Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
If it was my dog i would stop lamping and concerntrate on the training in the daytime. Once you have that done and then start with some retrieving at night using a dummy somewhere where theres no scent or other distractions. Once the idea that lamps go on dogs goes, lamp goes off dog comes back is instilled and the retrieving is good then try on the lamp again. I would also avoid going with anyone else or any other dogs until the dogs running right. No distractions no pressure just you and the dog. Just my opinion. Good luck. Quote Link to post

Good post, Sounds like good advice to me, also can I add, once you have cracked his day time training for the training at night try find a enclosed area were he can't put any distance between you and him and were there is likely to be no scents or distractions. Dranny GLC 112
How would you train him? Would you try get him to retrieve a rabbit skin dummy and everytime he cums back give him a treat.? Quote Link to post
