dazzz 421
ive just finished mincing about 30 rabbits all for the dog, the only thing it's missing is a bit of much needed fat but you can introdue that easy enough, as for dry i use hill's science plan but it's not cheap mate i usually wait until it's on offer
SteveRasbridge 5
i used to use gain but its a budget food but still a good food .....friends of mine use shephards mix and arkwright chicken with tripe or in the cold months lamp mince cos its got extra fat but me personally i use proplan performance in the winter when the dogs working and proplan athletic in the summer when things are quiet and my bull x holds weight and i get a good nights running with it .....if u do excerise the dog alot and u can see the dog is tired put tripe or lamb mince in the food ......proplan last longer too cos u got a set amount and its a concentrated food so where gain lasts a month proplan can last a month and a hal or maybe two months and u get alot better coat wich doesnt matter when ur working the dog but i like to consider mine a bit of a pet

Gaz_1989 9,539
I've always loved the idea of barf and raw feeding, successfully done it a few times but always struggled with the preparation - cooking pasta or rice and veg Etc. I run a pretty hectic life and cooking dogs meals is just one thing I can do without. Over time I've managed to find a pretty good balance and I now feed as follows... Every morning either a rack of lamb ribs or a chicken carcass. Every evening a slice of Wholemeal bread (2 for the lurcher, 1 for the terrier) which you can get for 47p per loaf in Aldi. Along with alternated minced butchers waste one day and green tripe the next. The butchers mince is bone, fat, offal, beef, lamb - pretty much anything really. On mince days I add a scoop of keepers mix and on tripe days I add a spoon of cod liver oil. One day a week I swap the meat or tripe for a tin of fish in Tomatoe sauce and a couple of eggs. I add veg when I've got it left over from a meal etc. Dogs love it and look great. Hope this helps. Gaz.
Nik_B 3,790
My lab is on Skinners duck and rice. He looks good and no fat on him
ggw 5
Always use either beta or chudleys with tripe rabbit or meaty bones , works well for my lurchers whippets and spaniel.
Mooch. 177
BARF - the prep is easy, no need to cook anything (it's not raw food if it's cooked). For every meal my labx gets chicken carcasses or lamb bones and minced butchers scraps. Once or twice a week he gets a whole sardine, an egg (including shell) and fine chopped veg (all raw) and table scraps whenever there are any (not often in my house). My dog looks great, he works great and his stools are small and solid. I wouldn't recommend anything else.
