Well i was up at 6.30 ready to get out before the little bleeders were on the hunt for grub. When i got to the farm the scenery was set for a good morning nice and misty and no wind what so ever.

I made sure to go to the farm the day before to sort out my hide that i keep there all the time so they are none the wiser.

So of i went to get to my hide, muddy as hell as its not stopped raining in manchester for the last 12 years, even the cattle have been indoors for the past 2 months.

This is the view to where im going to get my prey, i set up a magpie decoy about 30 yards from the tree with some left over food, two hours in and all hell let lose.

It shows only 4 maggies in the pic but i shot 6, i couldnt retrieve the others as they fell in water waist deep. I took all these at 40 yards within say 1 minute apart from the jay what visited the tree say 10 mins later making that horrid noice we all know. all the birds have gone to my friend who keeps hawks and will use them for lures, So nowt goes to waist even corvid hunting. Oh and on my way back to my van.

Great stuff - good for you for getting out early. The first few hours of daylight are often the most productive - or last knockings.

I tend to make natural hidea around the place, so I don't have to do anything but creep into position...I even plant shrubs to grow into hides around the place. Trailing holly is always useful, just pull up some suckers and plant them where they can be of use. A pair of secateurs in my pocket or bag and I can prune a hide into a clump of bushes easily. Nets are great for making a hide where you can't make a permenant natural one though.
