bird 9,916
well ive been out all day doing a bit of bushing and bolting for the same 2 dog's and you lot are getting all hot under the collar lol, suffolk some of the land was very short fields and others with long tufts (you know the type), anyway last night was a mixture of easy and hard as you've got to take into account them steep hill's as well. i will admit Ruby has never been good at clappers as we dont get many but last night she did realy well and took about 6 or 8 so either she has mastered it or they where easy you decide mate. Andy not like you to get wound up so easy thats usualy my job lol whats clappers ,? are they squaters .? i find the darker the night when the beam its right at the rabbit .Bryn will take them straight out .But if its lighter somtimes he dont see them , but dont make much differnce, as when it getts up he will take it before it hits the edge or wall etc.. .. lapin2008 1,587
Well done men and dogs. I dont fully buy all the talk about easy rabbits in the dales. Scottish borders etc. In my opinion its more to about the amount of rabbits the land holds then the layout of the fields. I have a decent amount of permission in the dales as well as loads of the big arable stuff near where I live where most fields are 30-100+ acres). The catch rates for my dogs are comparable between the two, yes sometimes a wall will get the rabbit to turn more (not always as they often know exactly where they are going) than the hedges in the arable but the flip side of it is that any rabbit 100 yards out in an arable field with the lamper between warren and rabbit is as good as dead in most cases. Maybe on a a night a dog will have more longer runs in the big arable fields but IMO they are easier on the dogs. Whos to say that a 200 yard run on a flat arable field is less tiring than a 100 yards on on a 50% gradient. I know what I would rather run on if it was me chasing them! 3 Quote Link to post
