microchiping?

Recommended Posts

hi wasnt sure where to post this so have posted it here

i was wondering everyones view on micro chiping ?

i have a friend who has/had two labs both were both microchiped they were stolen from her garden in the middle of the day when she was at home they just pulled up made a fuss of the dogs who happly jumped in the van and they were gone

when the ba*tards realised that they were chiped they chucked them out on the M25

what makes it worse is that two days after the dogs went missing she was the one that spotted hers dogs lying headless on the hard sholder of the motorway.

i cant help wordering that if they wernt microchiped that they would be still alive happy somewere else

all of my dogs are microchiped as i had this done before this happend but im not sure i will get the next dog chiped.

please tell me your views on this

Oh my god thats awful really sorry to hear that. I did a Microchipping course couple years and have got all the equipment but have only done a few dogs as i realised soon after then it seemed a bit pointless and like you say what happens to these poor dogs when theives realise. I now would prefer to tattoo as i would like to think it would make the ba*tards realise before they actually took the dog. Also in our spaniel his chipped moved (not chipped by me!) and had migrated to his shoulder which although vet says nothing to worry about i wouldnt want something floating about in me! What happened to your pal is the stuff of nightmares and i hope one day she will somehow get over seeing that.

All mine are chipped, I think the benefits far outweigh the negatives. I used to be a dog warden and if your dog is picked up you have a far better chance of recovery if the dog can be identified.....................

Not uncommon for the chip to move, any decent rescue/warden will know that chips migrate and search accordingly. Not all dogs are stolen by lowlife scum that would cut their heads off, most go walk-a-bout when hunting or on heat and a chip will aid recovery.. :victory:

Microchipping is far better IMO than tattooing. I had 3 dogs tattooed and they were unreadable by the time the dog had matured, re: Lurchers etc.. we know how ears can be removed easily etc.. the dog wouldnt be identifyable in that case. I wasnt keen on chipping untill the last few years, i truly believe its the only safe, secure way that cannot be altered, that will specifically identify the dog to its owner.

I have had all mine done, in fact I have taken a course in it and am now qualified to microchip animals (cheaper than your vey too :D ) There is a very small chance of the chip migrating but they can still be found if they do, the only way IMO.

Guest MOLLY

Ive got both, the tatt, to hopefully put people off in the 1st place, and incase the chip is not obtainable, the chip incase they did'nt look in the ear in the 1st place or if the tatt is unreadable.

And if branding was legal, i'd bloody do that aswell
