gurtwurz 792
hi lads, well first up i'd like to say a big thank you to andyfr1968 for doing a top tune job on my elderly hw80, he's done a cracking job on it, making it very smooth to shoot, with a nice quiet action, very little recoil and very good pellet to pellet consistancy-i'm over the moon with it. i've put it in its original stock, having made some alterations to the comb and the forestock utilising plastic padding and dowel, to make the comb much higher so it suits the scope and the foreend deeper to make standing shots a bit more comfortable, especially since its a full length barrel. i sprayed the stock camo too, but if i'm honest i'd have left it looking like an old cortina wing except the missus kept telling me how horrible it looked hopefully you can see it in the photo, as modelled by milegajo(hes far more photogenic than me) needless to say, i spent the entire weekend trying to get to know it, to the detriment of shooting the pro sport(oops!) and thoroughly enjoyed taking it on a successful woodland stalk with tony at the meet, which was a great way to finish getting to know it. anyhow, here it is; cheers, wurz 2 Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
oh yeah, the G.A.M. stands for gurt air musket lol Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
It may look like a wing of an old Cortina after a side on hit, but feck she's so sweet aint she? That Woody at 22-25 yards almost verical showed the quality of the gun, the marksmanship and the tuning Nice work Andy Tony 2 Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I'm really glad you're happy with it, Wurz. It's a nice old action you've got there, it didn't take much work to sort out the few rough edges here and there. Enjoy!!!! 2 Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
Lol, the face says it all! Superb gun that, popping the smallest spinners consistently at 35 yards. I was trying to take a photo there so Mawders could see what he was missing. Cheers for the test drive, and I can second what Wurz says completely. 3 Quote Link to post
tomburras 2,730
That sound great, one day ill buy a hw80 again fantastic guns. Im verry curious how they will shoot after a tune too. Are they anywhere near the smoothness of a pcp? 1 Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
If I remember rightly you're not too far away from me Tom. I'm fixing up an old action of my own that was kindly given to me by Pianoman. It's a way from being finished as I'm pretty bloody skint at the moment but you're welcome to have a go when it's done. In the meantime though, if you'd like to try my own tuned and smoothed HW90 then give me a shout. It's the sweetest springer you'll ever shoot, I promise you that. Quote Link to post

If it was me, given the choice between a brand new HW or an older West German built one, I'd go for used every time. Yes, it may need a few quid spending on it to get it up to scratch but it'll be the better tool in the end. That's assuming it's not totally fecked to start with!! Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
You think andy could improve that fiesty meteor of yours davy?! Probably not, you can't polish a turd!! Just kidding, Davy knows what he's doing Down tuning's the way to go with stuff like that. Keep them sweet for juniors to use, or close range pest control Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi John. That HW80 looks really great (Handsome lad, our Miles!) I knew Andy would return this HW80 back with a winning performance. He tuned my HW77 to perfection and services all my precious spring rifles and I would trust them to his skills and care anyday. Chris/Thursodog has done a remarkable transformation job with his HW80 too. Great to read you are so delighted with what Andy has done for your rifle John! I love the HW80 and HW77. Either of em' would give anyone genuine pleasure to own and hunt with. Brilliant read lads. Well done. Simon 2 Quote Link to post
