Kevj 434
Does anyone work parsons to ground?I am considering getting one for a bit of ratting, flushing to guns and some earthwork.the reasons I am considering one is,with the guns I want I white terrier because I think their is less chance of a White one being accidentally mistaken for something else and getting shot at,not that the shooters would do like. Also through past experiences with terriers I need a more sensible type of dog that won't be off the road for weeks on end after a dig cos I only have the room for one terrier and last but certainly not least the missus likes the breed and she has to have a little input seeing as she lives with me(under the thumb I know).I have been looking online and certain lines seem to produce the odd worker but I would prefer to get one bred worker to worker to improve the chances of picking up a goodun.Any input would be appreciated, pictures would be good too,and if anyone is lining up a litter I would be interested in hearing from you. Thanks Quote Link to post
Pedwar 320
Get a Russell, will work the same and £100 cheaper Quote Link to post
Kevj 434
I know that mate and if I see the right one I will get a Russell,I like the look of the parson type though and so does the missus, she has been to a local parson breeder and saw some of her dogs and likes them but I want one that will keep me happy as well,so it has to come from working dogs Quote Link to post
matt1979 766
Have to agree with Pedwar as you will be paying for the name with a pure KC Parson and i would have thought you struggle to find one from working parents. There are working russels out there of very similar build to the Parson type. I know of a guy that keeps this type in Derbyshire and they are well worked and look exactly the same as a Parson Russell although a couple of inches shorter (but still the longer leg and square proportion) he attends most of the terrier and lurcher shows during the summer (and does well). Never seen these dogs work first hand but heard good things. I am sure if your not in a rush and bide your time a working russell pup for a reasonable price with parents which look the same a parsons will crop up cheers Matt 1 Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,324
ive worked a few parsons. from old groundhill/howlbeck lines. i found them handy enough. had some fun with this lad. dont keep em now though. unless your going to show at kc. shows your better to go for well bred unregistered russells . good luck 4 Quote Link to post
Billy Warren 43
Don't go to Eddie Chapman foxwarren for one as he don't work his dogs and they ant got a day's work in them his old stuff has but it's finding them is the trick finding one with the paper work as most of the men I know bred worker to worker and only breed when they need to Quote Link to post
Kevj 434
I have been looking for ground hill/howl beck lines in case I can't pick a decent one off working parents,so I was looking at the right lines but I would be interested in a proper jack Russell type if it's from good workers and is a good type.thanks Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
What is a Parson Russell, i've simply never bothered finding out... Is it simply a Jack Russell with papers, less working ability and an inflated price tag..??? Quote Link to post
