patterdalejoel 669
went up to charlie nelly 1's on saturday, for a day ferreting on the dales. was quite warm, too warm, but whenever we sat down to have some fodder it went chilly, sods law. not a bad view from the first warren unfortunately whilst i was lying on my belly trying to be artistic, 3 rabbits bolted out the same hole at once and charlie managed to catch one between his legs but it got away. so if i hadn't been arsing around might of got an extra one. not a bad view for lunch, almost makes it worth the climb up there. dog had a cracking day, its like shes in heaven up here. she managed to pick one up herself scouring around and grabbed a squatter, was chuffed to say the least, watching it drag her around whilst she clutched it worked like a demon all day, top credit to charlie nelly 1 for handling the litter so well, she is like a lamb, and credit to charlie for breeding such a good litter of ferrets, they have all turned out top class theres much worst places to be in the world, i for one, and im sure charlie is the same, loves it up here, its like never ending in some places. not a bad place for a rest and to watch me slip around on my arse trying a little 1 holer charlie was trying to dig one out here, and it was bumping around like a bitch and eve was waiting for the bolt for about 10 mins, which im pleased at as she can sometimes get bored. we got it out, ferret had certainly given it some stick. this is the rabbit dug out, and i would consider the jill a hefty ferret for a jill, so this was one big b*****d buck rabbit. must of been one of those big dales rabbits whin was always on about good lad on charlie for being so good on the spade, rabbit didnt stand a chance very steep warren, which makes it pretty hard work, especially when scanning with the mk1 for a knock. think we got 5 or 6 out of this warren? 1 dug. we could see them walking up about 8 sat out and a few smart ones legged it. (rabbit was dispatched before we let Bert rag it for any anti wankers lurking out there) got charlies hob, Bert, the once feral ferret, out and he stuck to it, unfortunately the battery was dead on the collar, so we scanned and scanned with the mk1 until he came up and we put another collar on him and put him back down and practically lifted a lump of turf and there he was. good ferret if a little steady but hes good backup for them stubborn ones close up of ol' Bert with his mittens on Hope you enjoyed the write up, i certainly enjoyed the day. think we ended up with 21 ish, with some skinny buggers chucked for the buzzards as we couldnt be arsed carrying them home. had a few digs, nothing more than 2 foot though and no big rocks or owt which was good. always enjoy a dig, nothing better than reaching in the hole and feeling a rabbits arse, its what i live for met a couple of groups of walkers on the way back and they all commented on how well we did and what a good bag it was, which was nice not to get any funny looks. what a top class EOD 4 Quote Link to post
