I wouldnt be paying them jack mate........he told you it would be no problem, saw the ferret and still want to cut him open before deciding he couldnt do it. Smacks of him not knowing what hes doing.

i can give you some more usefull info regarding which vets to avoid to if you want ??? lol

thank you for the offer mate vary much appreciated but 480 mile round trip a bit far for a ferret   im surprised there are still unborn litters about tho , had given up looking for this year

had a phone call from the vets . he has died , im fecking gutted , got really attached to him (buzz) the hob , he was the tamest little ferret i have ever had was a real little character

they have said that they want to send him for an external post-mortem to determine the cause of death and they are going to pay for the cost , so will see what they got to say when they phone back

poor thing, wonder who or what is to blame or maybe you were just unlucky.

well he admitted that they had him out and opened up for quite a long time trying to do the op so i think it was them to blame if im honest , i will put a vid of him up now from a week ago .

Sorry to hear that mate, what a twat eh? :(

There's always a risk when a small animal like a ferret goes under anaethsthetic for an op like that, but the clusterfucked nature of what happened when he went in wasn't helpful..

Waardenburgs - scroll down to the bit about animals for an explanation..

no mate , he wasnt looking to bad when he came home , he could walk bit wobly ,and drinking ok , his run nest box etc was in the shed , which is insulated , and i put the dogs heat lamp on in there so it was perfectly warm for him

To me looking at him he looked a little to small to be done, i know my vets wouldnt have done him.

Mine went in the other week, hes a bit older around 8 months - but the vet had no problem with doing the vas,

when he came home he wasnt wobbly either, bit drowsey thats about it.

What a c*ck-up. So sorry your hob died.

I'd be pretty pissed off with this vet too. Unless your hob was presenting difficult hormonal behaviour that required urgent veterinary attention, they should not have booked him in for any op. A hormone regulator may have been an option rather than trying to operate at his age IF he was hormonally imbalanced in relation to mating cycle.

With vasectomies (and castrations), hobs really should be in season as the Vas Deferens can be very difficult to locate with they are not in season (as in the confusion the vets had over 'is it an artery?')

IMO, these vets were unethical, subjected your hob to unnecessary operations, which may have contributed to his death. You did not FORCE the vets to carry out the op, they should have discussed in detail with you all of the complications/aftercare and allowed you to make the decision. They did not. Just not good enough. ATB, again sorry you lost him.
