I dont feed a lurcher all year just to grab rabbits in a net I must admit to sometimes doubling (or trebling) my ferrets up though!

It's all well and good in theory but relies on the right ground.

 

Also, its frustrating when the dog runs the first off across the field and another six trot out and feck off when the dogs busy.

Do you find it more satisfying catching the 1 with the dog or the 6 with the nets. for me a love the thrill of the chase hence why I own lurchers.

what a cracking way of keeping your dogs fit and filling the pot, unless you have to take big numbers i.e. pest control why use nets?.

Unless its to keep the farmer/ keeper happy i never use nets. Dogs only. We dont catch them all but we do catch most of them. As said it keeps the dogs fit and happy, its more sporting and its more fun

If you think a ferreting dog only grabs rabbits in nets then you dont do much ferreting.

I know exactly what you are saying, but i do enough mooching / ferreting / general hunting to gt a good few runs for the dog, and i get the satisfaction from it all coming together and all six rabbits beiung caught. Obviously seeing one snapped up by the dog is the highlight of the day by far, but i'm usually there to clear the rabbits, so need to show numbers at the end of the day.

Not all ground is worth bolting to dogs, some land is just a waste of time.

all depends whether you're supposed to be clearing them or not, but i dont think you can beat lurchers and longnet, best of both worlds

hi jezza i am new to hunting life i do abit of ferreting and its nice to know that people are still using longnets i never use to use longnets intill a friend of mine show me and now i think there the best if u got any longnet and lurcher storys i would love to hear them thank you ashley
