lampinglurcher 36
im wanting to buy a rifle around .22 calibre for shooting all the usual bunnies, corvids etc, but also foxies as i've decided using the shottie all the time for them is just not going to do! so. how strict is the licensing/how much is it, what sort of cabinet do i need, and finally, any thoughts on which particular gun i should choose? if not .22, what other calibres would suit my needs? thanks in advance matt Quote Link to post
tom.k 8
WOULD THAT BE A .22 RIMFIRE OR A .222 CENTREFIRE Quote Link to post
brno17 5
hi mate, licensing for firearms mainly about having good reason to possess the rifle and suitable cleared land to use it on this varies from force to force. cost i cant help you with as my tickets are coterminous so i dont know the individuasl prices but at a guess for fac i reckon £40. if youre shotty cabinet is modern you should be ok but youre feo will advise during his visit. as for rifles i dont think you can better cz for the money theyre both accurate and reliable. lastly though, you cannot use a 22 rimfire for fox control except at very close range , if you are serious about foxes get a centrefire , any of the .22 centrefires will be adequate, although you may not be granted c/f on first application. hope this helps. :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
tom.k 8
YOU WILL HAVE TO GET A NEW CABNET AS THE SHOTTY ONE IS NO GOOD IT DOES NO HAVE A SEPERATE COMART MENT FOR THE AMMUNITION AS FOR OTHER CALIBRES IT,S NOT THAT EASY WITH FAC DEPENDING ON YOUR FAO IT MAY BE ONE STEP AT A TIME AS FOR RIFLES I WOULD RECOMEND A .22 BRNO/CZ RIMFIRE FOR A BEGGINER BUT FOR A CENTREFIRE I PERSONNLY WOULD SPEND A BIT MORE A GET A DECENT TIKKA OR SAKO WINCHESTER ,ETC Quote Link to post
the patman 4
hi lampinglurcher the cost of the fac is 50 quid unless you get a coterminous one then it will be 60 depending on your local force it shouldnt be a problem obtaining fac the patman Quote Link to post
old man 0
I went for a 243 as my first rifle which i got with no problems except i had to gain experience by going out with someone who has owned a centre fire , it was written in the condition's part on my fac which i had taken off after a couple of month's. Both my rifles are CZ which i think are great value for money and very hard waring and most importantly they both hold there zero perfectly , your gun cabinet should be OK if it is police approved but you might have to buy a separate ammo box for about £50, as for cost firearms is £50 and co-terminous is £60.
