jhiggins 48
Got a tip from the groundsman at an estate I ferret, that the fields surrounding a small block of woodland were getting a hammering from the rabbits. I had a look on the Saturday and sure enough it was like rabbit city in there! I'm used to ferreting hedge rows so the clear open warrens in the woods looked all too appealing so I set out first thing Sunday morning with four Jills (inc 2 new Polecats) and the mutt. This was the first time ive been ferreting solo as my mate couldnt make it which meant that neither could his whippet. So my terrier/rodent had to step up. We missed a few but had great fun with the bunnies bolting really hard. We ended up with 11 and I think we missed 4 so not too bad! The best warren was a 12 holer just outside the block of woodland which produced 4. One of the new Polecats is really coming on and is less of a challenge to collect when the warren is empty, the other had a good old chew on my finger when I went to pick her out of the box, more handling needed..... Few pics, would have taken more but its tough enough on your own as you guys probably know! All the best Quote Link to post

jhiggins 48
Haha yeh the barrel was a god send! Was good being on my own in a way. Amazing what you can see when your quiet in the woods, as I turned up a hen sparrow hawk come rattling throught the trees with a mouse. Quote Link to post
