equipment for a beginner?

Hi Guys

I have 3 ferrets coming up to 6 months old. I have some new permission.

 

What equipment would you recommend for someone starting out?

What sort of nets

what type of locator

boxes etc

I understand some of this will depend on the type of ground you cover but in general?

1. 10-15 4ft purse nets (then learn to make your own)

 

2. mark 3m locator, 3 x collars

 

3. double ferret box

 

4. decent small digging spade

 

5. Net bag

 

6. toilet paper

Get yourself some nets and you can add the rest slowly when funds allow

At a minimum purse nets a box and a spade. You don't have to use a ferret finder but they are handy

4ft 10z purse nets, will last forever, unless you leave them behind...............

start small. a few nets a trusty ferret and a spade and the first thing you gotta get is confidence. small sets, a handful of nets and a bit of patience till you see if you like it. then you can add gear bit by bit then you will need a 4x4 to carry all the crap lol

I live in staffordshire, no budget I can spend what I like, but that doent mean I want to throw money at it. Some good 2nd hand gear will do me fine.

With nets does the material they are made from matter??????????????

what would he need a spade for without a locator?

 

all you need to start is a ferret.

 

if you have a dog you dont even need nets!

 

BUT realistically, get yourself some NETS spun poly is a good material but its your choice. plenty of guys on here make them. i get mine off 'the one'.

 

a CARRY BOX...again plenty of guys on here make them.

 

WATER BOTTLE for a drink.

next thing to add after youve got them would be:

 

a locator and collar (mk1 is cheap and well recommended(

On The packed lunch front I couldn't go ferreting without my homemade Biltong. Doesn't go off, can be stored without packaging and u can cut bits off when u like.
