Whizzie 38
Was chatting to a mate of mine, and the conversation turned to the subject of Corvids. He mentioned when he was a kid, his aunt used to make em crow pie? Does anyone eat em? Can you? Would you want to? Whizzie Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
I've heard of people eating them and rooks. Can't say I fancy it myself though. Quote Link to post
Whizzie 38
Nor me walshie mate. My initial thought was typically wrong; The post war years, mega lean pickings etc. But the buddy of mine who mentioned it, is only 52, so spent his misspent youth in the 70's & things were ok round here then, so it wouldn't have been a war time farm make the most of everything type job. I put squizzers into the game pie, but won't be adding any Corvids anytime soon. Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
if you know how pritty much anything can be a nice meal. Quote Link to post
tegater 789
Rooks are OK in a pie or stewed, but they are always better mixed with a bit of other meat as well or even a bit of bacon, and then some nice gravy or sauce. Some people dont like them, but then some people will not like fillet steak. Each to their own, but get young ones though. Quote Link to post
salop sniper 32
Rooks shot as branchers are stunning and are as nice as a good steak ! Being branchers they havent built up muscle tone yet and so are very tender, just tend t use the breasts ! Nice with a bit of chilli and garlic to ! Wouldnt eat an adult one nor a crow but yes to rook (branchers). ATB Matt Quote Link to post

kanny 20,702
sorry lads but your wrong rooks eat carion as much as crows even more so in nesting season Quote Link to post
tegater 789
Ok they eat it occasionaly but not as much as crows and maggies. I have never pulled one in to a sheep carcass for example, but they may come in for the maggots. I also expect they will feed on carrion in really hard weather. Quote Link to post

I also expect they will feed on carrion in really hard weather. i use to think the same but since living next to a large rookerie for the last 5 years ive noticed them eating carrion alot more than i expected ... if anything gets killed on the road there on it.... edit just to add theres a local dump about 2 miles away and there always on there to another reason i wouldent eat them.
