walshie 2,804
I know what you all feel about calling 101 before you do any shooting, and I can assure you I won't be doing it in the future. I've recently had a massive problem with foxes in my garden, so I've caged and dispatched a few over the last few weeks. I've called 101 a few times before I have done the deed in case any of my neighbours complained. I ASSUMED it would be better than having an ARV turn up at my house in the early morning, but I think I would have preferred that. I can only say it has caused me a lot of aggro with the local cops - one of whom I suspect is an anti. The first day I called it in, there was a panda car sitting just along from my house with 2 cops staring at me, but didn't say anything. The second day I called it in, a woman copper phoned my house at 06.15 waking the household to remind me not to shoot badgers - yes, really. Later that day a sergeant came round quizzing me on what I was doing. The third and last time I called it in, this same woman called me, and basically talked drivel for 15 minutes. Here's what she said: 1: You can't bait cages. It's illegal. How else would I get them in the cage? 2: You won't get rid of foxes that way. Seems to be doing a good job so far. 3: SOME PEOPLE might not like what you are doing. I wasn't asking for their blessing, I was just telling them. 4: Fox mange isn't caught from foxes. It's caught from the grass. Where do these people get their info? 5: She had to "check this out" as there had been reports of badger baiting in the area. There are no badgers anywhere near here. 6: She said she was sure what I was doing was legal as if not, they "Would have sent Trident round to see me." I thought that was for gang related crime in London. All of this is because some anti is abusing their position for their own ends. Unfortunately for her I have complained about it, not to her immediate superior, but to her boss's boss's boss's boss. Let's see how she likes being quizzed. Oh yes. I won't be calling 101 any more. walshie 2,804
F*ck me is this serious?? you need to complain at the very least. Absolutely serious Nik. I have complained at Commander level with a copy to BASC.
Nik_B 3,790
Sorry didn't see the first post where you said you already complained. I'd be interested to hear what happens and also how much use BASC were. Apart from the total waste of police resources it's very worrying to see the police over react to the legal use of guns and hunting Cheers Nick
tegater 789
You know my views on it.........I dont call them, I never have, and I never will, unless it becomes law........which it wont! What I do on my land and on my permissions, is my business, providing it is within the law....end of The cops can come out as many times as they want, which so far is a big fat 0, in all the years I have been shooting, and this includes lamping which at times is near to habitations. DIDO.1 22,846
always always always take names and record all details when dealing with people 'in authority' if you dont like what they say/they abuse their position/you get any come back then write all details down in a letter and send to a number of different people within the force/ department or indeed company mentioning you are complaining all the way up the ladder. I always have a note book handy now to record names of anyone i speak too.

tegater 789
I actually dont think they abuse the law, because that implies intent. I am sure it just because they dont understand hunting and shooting law. Unconciously incompetent!

I don't know about you but one thing that scares me is the police with guns...it's not like they're well known for thinking twice before blowing some poor buggers head off.
