What would I class my lurcher as?

Recommended Posts

Got a lurcher pup 18 month old. Dam in deerhound x collie/greyhound and sire is 1st cross collie greyhound. What would I class him as when people ask? Deerhound x collie x greyhound could mean different things depending on what way you read it. I was never very good at percentages and fractions so just wondering if anyone could help me out. P.s I hope this makes sence as I have had a few cans ha

if its got working dog in the mix (sheep+cattle dog, terrier, gundog,) its a lurcher, if just sight hound to sight hound its a longdog. The % thing is only good on paper , as the pups will faver 1 of the dogs more than the others in the x .

I already know the difference between a longdog and a lurcher it was the percentages of my lurcher I was wondering about. Cheers anyways though

I used to get hung up on percentages but came to learn that because its 1/16 deerhound there could in reality be alot more deerhound blood in the dog and it could look very deerhound like. Just an example of course. A dog with half collie could throw to look nothing like a collie and look saluki even though there is only an 1/8 saluki blood gone in.

Id just call it what it is.. Collie/Gh/Deer/Gh or if you prefere a Collie/Gh with a splash of DH in it...?

And GR them % could be way off its a Deerhound x Collie/Gh the collie could be 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 and so on

Exactly, just enjoy your dog and graft it and don't get too hung up on 1/8 this and 1/16,s that  Cheers Atb
