Fussy stinker?

Recommended Posts

Just after feeding stinkers, today they got guinea fowl that had to be culled due to injury

All of the stinkers dived in delighted to be getting it except the albino... He looked quite confused and ignored the carcass?

Never seen a stinker turn down a fresh carcass? Was it the feathers he didnt like?

i got a hob ferret here, and he refuses to eat fresh rabbit whenever i put it in there for him, have'nt tried him with anything else, but i can leave a piece of rabbit in there for a day or two, thinking when he's hungry he will eat it, but so far he's proved me wrong, strange i think........having a vegetarian ferret....lol, but when i put dried food in there he soon tucks into it,

must be something to do with giving them james welbeloved dry food, or any other dried food come to think of it, because one or two friends have experienced this in the past,

all the best,

jay.

ive a 3yr old albino hob here wont touch flesh at all only eats dry food . atb sp

i wonder if its a hob thing....... :hmm: .some will some wont..........., all the ones i've heard of have been hobs.........strange that.

i suppose the main thing is......as long as they do the job they are kept for, and you are happy with the way they work, it does'nt really matter what they eat, only downside is it can be quite costly feeding dry all the time.

i got a couple a kitts a good few years ago an the guy said they had been reared on ferret biscuits, an they wouldnt touch flesh for love nor money, i started asking around an it seems its quite common for ferrets fed on kibble to turn there noses up to meat, i did starve the 2 jills i had for a day an they soon started eating flesh, so all was good

They really can be contary creatures. They tend to imprint on what's edible as a kit. As adult ferts, some readily expand to what's on offer but some just don't regard 'new' meat/dried food as edible.

Personally disagree with starving an animal until it eats what you give it. Wouldn't be the first case of an animal dying from refusing to eat what the owner provides.

no healthy animal would make the decision to starve to death rather than eat whats available, only humans are daft enough to make that sort of decision
