Nuthatch 1
I have been given a book by W.A Blakeston, W. Swaysland and August F. Wiener on canaries and cage birds. The inside cover says that it was produced c 1885 making it 127 years old. It says that there should be 56 colour plates so I counted them and they are all there. There are some pages loose and there are slight signs of wear on the outer leather cover. Can anyone tell me what it's worth?
Sherlock 42
I have seen them for sale on the net from as high as £700 for an immaculate condition, obviously they become cheaper the more damaged they are. I paid £120 for my copy about 10years ago it had a damaged spine but the pages are intact and clean. Some people on the net are breaking these old books down and selling the individual plates(pictures) for framing. Cheers Sherlock.
