Mooch. 177
It's the first day of my second season of picking-up tomorrow. Summer training has gone well and Max (my lab x pointer) is now much more responsive to whistle commands at distance. For the past couple of weeks we've been helping the keeper with dogging-in which has helped desensitise Max to birds running and flying around him. Now the shooting season is well under way for many of you, how's it going? Beating, picking-up, rough shooting or wildfowling, how are your dogs performing? Quote Link to post
cammy12 176
my springer is coming on excellent just a year old in aug and we have done 4 days beating now and am happy with the way she is coming on, a few good retreives but its the no cover to thick attitude in the beating line that makes me happy, ducks tonight so we will see how she does in the dark atb cammy Quote Link to post
Dave C 63
Was worried my Lab bitch Fern would struggle with her fitness as she still had pups on her early September. But she has come on really well and just as keen as before. She is Doggin in 2-3 times a week and Duck flighting once a week at the minute and we are both loving it. ATB Dave. Quote Link to post
Mooch. 177
Well our first day of the season went very well but wasn't without fault! Max was a lot less whingy this year than last but he's still very fidgety, having to watch every single bird that flies past us. He also had a problem with selective deafness which was particularly annoying when I was trying to put him on a runner while a gun watched! Ending on a positive though, Max is very good at his job and was bringing me birds faster than I could brace them up! He'd never win a field trial but it was very satisfying to walk past the keeper with 2 handfuls of partridges and at the same moment as Max emerges from under a thick tangle of nettles with another one!
