i apoligise for that last remark...uncalled for now i've read your next post.

ok...i'll try and help. firstly dont worry about ya lamp, you can cut the distance to the rabbit with good fieldcraft...using wind, approach. etc etc

definitly dont take both dogs, especially if its causing such a problem.

your dogs look well and fit, so well done on that point. Do you have anyone near you that can help you, where is yorkshire are you?

Maybe taking two dogs on so soon is an error to make as well, but hey its happened so you have to work round it and live with it. It also might mean going back to basics with training, short and often and keep it fun for you and the dog.

Cheers lads this is better advise. It's like the blind leading the blind with me and my dogs iv been reading up and watching DVD to pick stuff up, there was a exelent post on here about what to do and what not to do whilst out lamping a few weeks ago. Me and my pal followed it rule by rule and we did a lot better but I really need to train my dogs. Like you say I'll do a lot of one on one.

I can't give you any advice because iv'e only been lamping a short while too. I don't have much land and what i do have hasn't got many Rabbits on it. But, i do understand your problem because it's very similar to my situation.

But, I just go out and enjoy being out there, if we catch and i get the Rabbit off them all well and good. If not, well theres worse places to be.

sound like you have taken on somebody's problems to me. with them two dogs mate. find them a good pet home or pts .then get yourself a pup of working stuff. then get yourself some books / dvd on retrieving etc . and a new lamp for when its about 10month. then if all goes well you should have a lamping partner for a good few years .atb

Was out all night but my dogs don't have the skills I would like. And I am very frustrated its only my second season. Both my dogs never come back don't let do when they do catch a rabbit iv got a crap clu light and it's no powerful enough. When one dogs runnin the other is going crazy in back of the motor sick of running after them all night I do more running than them. They were lucky they got home let's but it that way. Iv a whippet and a sulki bull x both aged 3. Ad whippet 3 months ad lurcher a year. 3eeb1c91.jpg

your red saluki bull x is identical to my bitch mate.her recall is excellent it just takes time and patience with the dogs and make friends with the dog start by giving him a treat everytime he comes to you in a small field and make it fun for him and dat should do it regarding his recall.nice dogs by the way atb for this seasonpost-68270-0-46949000-1349479337_thumb.jpgthis my bitch Edited by Floyd17586

Just got in great night for it 2nite, my young dog took 3 from 3 big rabbits and my mates young bitch took 2 from 3, was unlucky 2 miss the third. I had a few problems with my dog first few times he was out he missed a big rabbit and went on a mission but after a few kills he seems to have grown out of it, his first few kills he seemed very possesive over didn't want me to have it he did it with first kill 2nite, but after that ok. I don't really run permission and the way things are a dog that won't come back will end up getting shot or get you locked up, got rid of a good killing bitch not so long ago cause to head strong on walks she would walk 2 heal, but when she got out she changed, if she missed she would want to hunt up learly left her a few times.
