they done it in ireland mate for the five nations, judge from 3 or 4 countries and there was still the usual patter after it lol.

Its not that when a show pony wins a show u don't here the hunters goin on about it because it's just a day out

i thought these shows were just a bit of fun?

Here's an idea then birddog cos its the only way youl solve it, imagine writing on a piece of paper why you didn't pick 150 dogs or how hard it would be to get multiple judges, put up a big sign outside the show saying judges choice is final, if there's danger of people getting upset if their dogs don't win, please get back in your car and go home.

Bottom line is different people have mixed and different opinions if people can't accept that they shouldnt be competing, in sport it would be bad sportsmanship

and some run there dogs others like to show them

And some can do both

ive been asked on many times to judge ,,,for being in running dogs and family being in lurchers and terriers ,,,since ive been able to walk

ive always declined

why??? cos there so much varity ,,how would i choose to make everyone happy

would i go for rough coated ,,would i go for smooth coated,,,,would i lev a dog out cos it was carrying an injury,,,??? if injury i thought wasnt well treated

i dont read books on dogs just what ive learnt,,will come into play,,,is my experence enough???? who iam i to say this dogs better than the next ???

i thought about it,,,,i can only pick what i would be perpared to take home,,,,and iam mainly keep smooth coats,,,but i hav a love for rough coated dogs,,,so it would be an even thing

but when it boils down to it,,,i would pick the best healthest dog on the day,,,i cant tell if it works,,,scars help but is not 100% it was at its job

years ago judges use to ask questions how dog was breed and age,,,,now there too scared to,,just incase owner think,s ,,,he didnt know how my dog was breed,,,he or she is usless,,,and in lurchers its soo hard to be right 100% of the time

I like All kinds of running dog so if there needin a judge next year ill say yes ) be as we'll it can't be that hard pick a dog that looks like it gets a lot of work and kept well simple job done then don't go on thl for a couple of weeks lol

so if the dug looks like its been stitched up a few times a few toes missing etc it should win lol

only if the owner stitched it up there selfs and then the would get the ultimate prize the big red lol

is the owner judged? if you say youd try and pick a dog thats looks like its worked then would the owner sway your decision? for instance 2 dogs the you 'think' look like they have worked. one owner is a well presented, young lad well spoken. the other is big feller, old camo clothing and coursing tattoos. which one would you choose?

another question-

would the dog make you decide if its been worked. for example, whats to say a 19" whippet isnt out catching day and night and a scarred up bull x has been marked by kennel fights?

would you look past the whippet in favour of the dog thats more capable in your eyes?

genuine question. not fishing, just wondering what you would think if it was you who was in the hot seat.

IN AN EVENT LIKE THIS WHARE YOU LOT ARE LOOKING FOR THE BEST OF

THE BEST WORKING TERRIER IN SCOTLAND , THROUGH COMPETITON AFTER COMPETITION

AND ONLY THE BEST QUALIFYS, ALOT OF EFFORT BEING PUT IN THROUGH THE MONTHS,,

WHY NOT HAVE INVITES TO DAYS OUT WITH THESE WORKING TERRIERS THAT

HAVE QUALIFYED AND THERE OWNERS ,

AND THE JUDGE ,( SAY IT AGAIN AND THE JUDGE,,), THEN THERE WILL NOT BE AS MUCH

BITCHING AFTER ALL SHOWS ,,,, ;)

LETS PUT THE MONEY WHARE THE LOOKS ARE :bye:

YIS CHANCER

Emm surely you are not serious?? so last year when i judged cock of the north i should have had 38 invites out with terriers?? get a grip..........sometimes there are 50 and more terriers in a ring, maybe some would have the time to go work their dogs legally ie(gamebird conservation) every weekend in season (which wouldn't be enough time) just to judge a show with dogs from all over britain BUT i think you'll find most judges have other committments.........ie." the real world", family,work................geeez and the lurcher judge can take a year out too for judging duties .........that is of course AFTER all these shows that qualify the dogs to start with ................. vixen walks away shaking her head.............

YEAH AM SERIOUS,! IM SURE IF THIS WAS THE CASE AND I HAD A GOOD LOOKING WORKING TERRIER THAT I HAD ENTERD INTO WORKING TERRIER SHOWS

OVER THE MONTHS , I WOULD MAKE TIME TO GO OUT TO PROVE IT WAS WORTHY OF BEING CHAMPION, .

ON THE OTHER HAND YOUL PROB FIND THAT MORE THAN HALF THE TERRIERS AND OWNERS THAT QUALIFYED FOR THE CHAMPS

SHOWS WOULD BE UNABLE TO ATTEND ON THE DAY OF TESTING , ( AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS THE DOGS THATS BEING WORKED

AND HAS TO ATTEND NOT THE OWNER), AND I DONT KNOW HOW MANY DOGS QUALIFY FOR A BEST OF THE BEST SO THATS UP

TO THE ORGANISERS WHO HOLD THIS TYPE OF SHOW, AND PICKING A JUDGE THATS GOT THE EXPEIENCE AND TIME TO JUDGE THE DOGS ; :hmm:

JUST MY OPINION , YIS CHANCER

got to agree in your case chancer i recon you would find that half the dogs owners and dogs that had quailifyed for such an event that held so much responsibility as being the best working terrier in scotland, would have second thoughts of entering there dog into a working terrier show,, there would be little less bitching after being judged, ,,,if this was the case of a trrue worthy working terrier show no doubt these people when qualifyed before hand would know if there dog was good enough to win it out right or not ,, ????? and on the other hand it could be a fact that im not entering my dog in case i need to prove it working infront of the judge... would rather keep in

the in the house and take all the glory for looks and breeding :hmm: :hmm:

At the end of the day a working terrier lurcher show is usually held to raise funds for a club or hunt, these small shows are supposed to be "fun" fundraising events, Judges........well judges are all different and have different ideas, unfortunately some judges no matter how long they have kept dogs/worked dogs still can't recognise major faults or a very badly put together dog, these are things that always have and will happen at these shows, you could go to one of these shows with the almost perfect dog in every way possible and get beat in the ring by a dog that looks like it's been made out of play doh., just a chance everyone takes that enters their dog.

I always go for conformation, when a dog has good conformation then it is obviously capable of doing the job it was bred for, that is what a judge should be judging, not scarring or injuries, a dog should be judged overall on whether it is capable of carrying out the work asked of it. Owners should never be judged on who they are, what they are wearing, what crap they talk, on the day it's down to the dog that's in front of you nothing more, and every £1 taken in the ring at these shows is £1 towards important funds whether it comes from the wee old lady with her wee pet terrier/lurcher to the terrier/lurchermen/women working their dogs regular. And if that wee old ladies dog has better conformation and a cracking specimen then it would be getting a place above some of these play doh dogs regardless to who you are, just the way i judge and my opinion, and i dont give a rats ass who i upset, in all the judging i have done i like to think it has been fair and honest, i have never had anyone say otherwise :whistling: yet............ anyway have a good season everyone

not doubting the old ladys pound, or her lurcher . the talk is a working terrier show, ,,

i agree on the chancer opinion of judgeing, ,, me personally not giveing a toss ,,

but sound a good idea of how to stop all the snash an bitching over champions of champions.,,

if your dog qualifyes for champs entry etc etc, lets get a day, night, weekend. or anytime you can make it

sorted, these judges have there last say along with the owners ,,

am sure you will find that the people thats qualifyed for champs that have lookers and NOT WORKERS

will come up with some excuse ,

BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS A WORKING TERRIER SHOW

Yes it is i agree...........a "working terrier" SHOW, which means ANYONE with a terrier LOOKING type dog capable of working is eligible to enter their dog pay their £1 towards fundraising and have the judge give his/her opinion on the day

just had a wee look at the qualifiers thread for the supreme british lurcher....if your going down with sky the very best of luck to linsey.............also they seem to have a panel of judges system for this where the dogs are marked out of 20 for conformation, movement, condition, presence, bite and feet, with no conferring between judges till after the event, now i understand that this is for a relatively small class but could this system be adapted or modified ?
