ive been asked on many times to judge ,,,for being in running dogs and family being in lurchers and terriers ,,,since ive been able to walk

ive always declined

why??? cos there so much varity ,,how would i choose to make everyone happy

would i go for rough coated ,,would i go for smooth coated,,,,would i lev a dog out cos it was carrying an injury,,,??? if injury i thought wasnt well treated

i dont read books on dogs just what ive learnt,,will come into play,,,is my experence enough???? who iam i to say this dogs better than the next ???

i thought about it,,,,i can only pick what i would be perpared to take home,,,,and iam mainly keep smooth coats,,,but i hav a love for rough coated dogs,,,so it would be an even thing

but when it boils down to it,,,i would pick the best healthest dog on the day,,,i cant tell if it works,,,scars help but is not 100% it was at its job

years ago judges use to ask questions how dog was breed and age,,,,now there too scared to,,just incase owner think,s ,,,he didnt know how my dog was breed,,,he or she is usless,,,and in lurchers its soo hard to be right 100% of the time

I like All kinds of running dog so if there needin a judge next year ill say yes ) be as we'll it can't be that hard pick a dog that looks like it gets a lot of work and kept well simple job done then don't go on thl for a couple of weeks lol

sh@te,,,ive just remebered i need to feed ur ugly ferrets today,,,,they wouldnt win any shows,,,,they better not bite me ,,pmsl ,,,,fanny boy

hilarious mate, the guy that judged this show had kept terriers for decades and look at the controversy

so where does conformation come into it bob ? like grant says with terriers theres a huge variety all with different standards but away from injuries and coat texture every running dog should have the same basic frame and structure, you know like...... 7 lumbar vertebrae or......... upper arms longer (around 20%) than the scalpulae........ etc

conformation does come in to it birddog,,,but i aint a kc breeder,,,or kc trainer,,,iam i,,,,and neather is alot of guy that have lurchers or into terriers

hence i will always decline to judge,,,its too much to take in ,,,for any judge to know EVERYTHING about diffrent dogs breeds at the shows

and anyone says they know all THE dog breed,s and cross breeds inside out ,,,well it takes some doing lol good luck to them lol

but it's not about kc anything you said you'd pick the healthiest but what if the healthiest wasn't made right ? why in your words would you...choose to make everyone happy ? in judging your only ever going to please one guy....the winner......a judge (and its easier in lurchers) must take conformation into account, is this animal fit for purpose, be it rabbiter, courser or bigger gear.......it's got narrow shoulders or loose elbows but its healthy doesn't cut it......neither does playing to the crowd trying to pick a popular choice

iam just going to lev it at that birddog

lets just say i would rather a lad like my dog for what it was,,,not colour ect ect,,,as he thought it was fitt for purpose,,,,and i dont expect him to be ,,,a total expert ,,,on every dog breed for £1 entry

its not crufts afterall

it's maybe not crufts and it doesn't matter how much the entry fee is, some folk travel hundreds of miles and spends weeks getting their dog right for a show (often costing them a lot of money) but they deserve a fair crack of the whip, an honest judge with a basic understanding of conformation, skeletal structure and musculature isn't too much to ask, is it ?

Conformation comes into it big time..............ALL working/ non working dogs should have good conformation to do the job bred for, some judges know what good conformation is and some dont, a chance you take at a "fun" day out show

we recently travelled 4 1/2 hrs each way to a fun day, we had a laugh met up with some pals old and new, had a go on the archery and the like spent £130 on fuel and a white lurcher with a yellow piss stain on it's coat from dirty bedding won our class......should we have to take a chance on honesty or integrity ?

well you took the chance............maybe you think your dog was the best but obviously the judge didn't..........that's shows for you, judges can't please everyone on the day

Here's an idea then birddog cos its the only way youl solve it, imagine writing on a piece of paper why you didn't pick 150 dogs or how hard it would be to get multiple judges, put up a big sign outside the show saying judges choice is final, if there's danger of people getting upset if their dogs don't win, please get back in your car and go home.

Bottom line is different people have mixed and different opinions if people can't accept that they shouldnt be competing, in sport it would be bad sportsmanship
