Is mico chip a legal requirement for a working gun dog??

Recommended Posts

Picked up my new cocker pup last night and had him at vets today for first injections and worming and the vet was asking about certificates for docking etc which we have and said microchipping? We said he's not got 1 yet and she replied that it's a legal requirement for working dogs and is usually done at the same time as docking???? This is the first time I've heard of this but it's also my first gun dog? I've had dogs all my life and all been chipped, but through choice not legal requirement? Is this true or is the vet just trying to push it? He will be getting chipped but if this vets trying to have me on I'll go back to my old 1!

Thank in advance

Ant

Ps only trying this vet as it's new and slightly cheaper.

can you not get your own injections over there and do them your selfs instead of going toa vet that asks a hundred qs not being smart by saying that but over here u could get your own microchips vaccines the lot and for noting compared to going to the vet for it

The injections were cheap enough at £48 for both sets and spoke to breeder about the microchip and he said his vet won't do it until they are 5-6 months old? So would be illegal if they need to be done before 12 weeks? Where abouts are you fay? I'm on phone so can't see sorry

vets have to by law if they have docked them ... to me it sounds like the breeder is trying to fob you off .. did you get a docking cert with the pup?

over here in NI we now have compulsary chipping in place , any new litters have to be done before 56 days old (8 weeks) and its up to the breeder to do it ..
