fox skull?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is in the right place and if not then please move.

I have a large fox skull in the freezer I have skinned it and cut away as much meat as I could when it was fresh.

Can I just put it under the ground in my yard for the worms etc to clean the rest of it up so I can then bleach it or does anyone know of a better way of doing it as I'm not bothered how long it takes and not to keen on boiling it because I was told it smells and still takes hours.

Thanks Mark.

Had to go and spoil that didnt you..............

You need to change your butcher..

Skin it remove all of the meat and then get a skewer and twizzle it about to loosen up the brain, then put it in a saucepan and bring to the boil and then keep it at a roling simmer for about 1/2 an ho

Best boil it off mate like they do with deer heads (I think they say a couple of hours with the deer) . I dont think you have to bleach them either in most cases it comes up fairly white anyway.

Not done it before, is it just plain old water and boil until clean and in a couple of hours it should be done?

I think so mate, have read somewhere its a couple of hours to do and all the flesh falls off. Try searching for trophy preparation or something like that. I assume that the skull will stand up to the boiling in the same way as a deers

A big old ant's nest will clean it up over time or just hang it up off a branch for a year but boiling is the quickest but don't use bleach as it can make the bone really soft and crumbly, use poroxide cream (from hair dressers) instead.
