underground nesting box

Recommended Posts

As a few people on here said it would be a good idea to make a underground nesting box to keep the ferrets from the heat. So not having anything better to do today I gave it a go the idea is to insert a piece of polystyrene in the top to insulate it further from the sun and then place a slab on top. Not sure it will work but its worth a try! as you can see brick work is not my strong point!

Jeez,

I thought I was the only mad one doing the heavy construction with my concrete floor. You have taken it one step further, like it!

Would quite like to incorporate this into my outdoor run which I may build at the end of the year, kinda Phase II.

Brilliant idea :D

Two things which would worry me especially if you feed raw. If you are covering the surface of it with soil?....if so will you not have to dig it out several times per week to clean it out...cos i know mine would drag the corpse down to eat in bed. And what about the tube being blocked with dead bunny and suffocating them?............sorry but i'm one of nature's worriers ;)

i think for now i will just have a lift off slab and see if that makes a difference in temp. i only feed raw in the winter when there are no flys about and i think then i will block it up, as it will be a bugger to get them when i want them out ferreting.

i will see how it goes its more of an expetiment than anything if it workes i will make a bigger better one!
