torchey 1,328 Posted October 1, 2012 Report Share Posted October 1, 2012 Picked up two young jills a fortnight ago within the first few days one of them come up with a lump on the neck and died a couple of days later then the same happened to its litter sister , tried anti biotics but found it dead this morning now i had a hob years ago and used to have to lance it and give it anti biotics from time to time and the two jills that died were related to his brother,,genetic??? weasle 1,119 Posted October 1, 2012 Report Share Posted October 1, 2012 The only time i had a abscess on a ferret was when working a small ferret on rats,When i found her you could see were the rat had been holding her between the shoulder blades,Despite cleaning it it turned into a abscess,I kept using hot water on a cotton wool pad until it acted like a poultice and the abscess burst,then i gave anti biotics don't like giving them until you get most of the puss out,but thats just my way. AndyKelly 251 Posted October 2, 2012 Report Share Posted October 2, 2012 i rescued one last year she had an abcess that came up treat it,went down, came back up again kept her going and eventually she gave up. i agree with raw too many closley related ferrets these days seems to be weakening some ferret lines. for the non serious ferreter this can have disastrous results in years to come. even now i hear of deformed ferrets regually, kits being born with three legs etc etc. someone i no was dumped with a litter of 14 deformed kits last season. i wish people would leave the breading to people who no what there doing and dont interbreed Quote Link to post
