bell 3,606
Well it was 'that' time of year again and the old bus pointed North and off we went. A lot of rain had come down but the West coast had been spared and a short hop accross on a ferry and we saw the burns were running just right First port of call were a couple of pots that we had implied permission to check......bingo a full house Well that was tea sorted, a couple of beers led to another couple and one thing led to another and before we knew it we were down on the shore by a rather fetching spate stream.......just the kind of place where any self respecting sea trout would love to run Now my mate is one of those that cant resist a challenge and with the tide being perfect he produces a 9 foot fly rod from nowhere and starts thrashing the water, again permission had been obtained weel in advance . A teal blue and silver always goes down well in these parts and before you could say 'mono fly' out pops this little beauty Undeterred by my mates instant success, i relieve him of his tackle and rig up a mono fly. ive done well with this fly over the years 'ooop north' and i had a feeling it was going to be one of those occasions. It was dark by the time i felt compftable fishing, i prefer a deserted beach, it helps me relax . The line was cast out, it hurtled accross the burn and crashed into the surf. A very gentle slow retrieve is whats called for here, its all about touch.....i dont know where my mate had gone, he was at the other end of the beach crouched down looking around, maybe hed dropped his fly box . Anyway, he missed the best of the action but was a trooper as he helped me carry the catch away.........and who says its 'grim ooop north' 5 Quote Link to post
