Waz 4,274
I have a bitch here that didnt start till she was over 2. Before that she was not interested in quarry dead or alive. She would have been kept as I sort of gave her to my son to grow up with & eventually she was a good house dog. & the wait has paid off. So, hang on and dont right the dog off too early. I have a youngster here, who is just starting to mature at around 16 months old, she has been around digs and quarry and clanging of shovels and picks for a year or so. Im in no rush but she will get 'surveyed' now 1st dig to her, not deep but was pick and shovel so took a while. (all legal control carried out in accordance to laws of the land to help out a local cattle farmer) Handy bitch who due to some bad luck ive had to rely on a lot. Work them hard 339
id tie him up on digs an giv hime blocked ends just to let him learn! Stop ending them can ruin a dog completely! Most terriers become heroes when daylight hits and when the owners there so get bitten for no reason. I wouldt bother stop ending if anything i just let them have a sniff at the side of the shovel but dont let them make contact, unless thats what you meant youngman 2 Quote Link to post
Tam O'Void 297
Don't compare him to your Other dogs/breeds..Take them on as a WHOLE new entity..that way you'll not maybe, give up on the Diggin side of things so Quick ! And in Other hands a dog/breed that is written off ,can with time and Patience turn a corner...and prove handy J.M.O. 3 Quote Link to post

Waz 4,274
those are good sized badgers waz, wouldnt mind having a bitch like that;-) It was worth the wait when she eventually started. A good lesson in patience I travelled 4 hours to a friends hunting area for some digging, everything we dug was small, I assumed they were this years youngsters, but he reckoned all the badgers he digs are small. Reckons the roe deer are on the smaller side around him. He's now got a half sister to the bitch in the photo. Quote Link to post
Attack Fell Terrier 864
If he's coming away and wants to go back in give him time he's trying to learn his trade. Some young dogs start out like that, but with experience they learn how to handle their quarry properly and become decent workers. It would concern me if he was coming away and had no interest in going back in after getting tagged, even at 18 months but you can only give him the chance, there's nothing else much you can do but give him the opportunity to prove himself. Best of luck with him, I hope he comes good for you. 2 Quote Link to post
